The polyamory people absolutely despise being represented like this: husband/wife add GF. They refer to the gf as a unicorn, a mythical creature. When most couples decide to experiment, they usually go looking for another woman.

Nobody in their right mind would enter into a relationship where all the rules have previously been negotiated and they’re the third wheel.

Check out the novels of the late Robert Rimmer. They were very popular in the period 1965-75 and cover the waterfront from multiple sexual partners (Harrad Experiment) to a ‘communitized palyamoritized social order’.
