LOUISVILLE (AP) - Here is a look at Kentucky's top races in Tuesday's general election, from the contest for governor at the top of the ticket to down-ballot races for statewide offices:

GOVERNOR

Democrat Jack Conway and Republican Matt Bevin square off in the race to become Kentucky's next governor in a pivotal off-year election. The winner succeeds Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear, who could not seek re-election because of term limits. The campaign turned into a referendum on President Barack Obama's signature health care law. Outgoing Gov. Steve Beshear used an executive order to expand the state's Medicaid program to cover an additional 400,000 Kentucky residents and create a health exchange, where more than 100,000 people have purchased discounted health plans with the help of federal subsidies. Bevin, a Louisville businessman, has promised to scale back the expansion and eliminate the exchange, saying taxpayers can't afford it. Conway, the state's two-term attorney general, has called Bevin's plan "callous" and said he would keep both programs. Independent candidate Drew Curtis was also on the ballot for governor.

“...who could not seek re-election because of term limits.”

Wouldn’t THAT be lovely for EVERY Elected official from Dog Catcher on up?

Come on, America! We CAN do better.

Mrs. Child & I have already done so. Sadly, the overall turnout is so low that Republicans could easily elect Bevin just by turning out. If he loses, those who don’t vote deserve what they get.

Regarding the fact that Steve Beshear used an executive order to expand the state’s Medicaid program. It was a state constitutionally illegal EO and the worthless Republicans responded by going to court. And lost. Morons.

Does anyone know how the turnout is going??? Is it in Bevin’s favor??? A Bevin win today would be a major upset, defeating a useless sitting Democrat Governor & his Obamabor Democrat vermin candidate!!! Get out there and vote for Matt Bevin, folks....it is very important that Bevin wins this election!!!

Pretty low IMO. Embarrassingly low. I was the only person voting at my polling place at 10:30 am.

That could be good news though. That means just the conservative and liberal faithful will be out to vote and there are more conservative in KY especially on an year.

.it is very important that Bevin wins this election!!!

Someone should have beaten that into the heads of the nincompoops running his campaign. Sigh.

We have to show a picture ID, so I was only able to vote once. Unlike the enlightened lib states /sarc

I’ve heard mixed reports. We’ll just have to wait and see, but get out the vote as best we can!

The latest has Conway ahead by 5 points. This is actually pretty good when you consider that he ran one of most viciously negative campaigns I have ever witnessed. I think I saw one ad that said what he was going to do, the rest attacked Bevin ( he “ borrowed” McConnell’s ads from last years senate election). He ran 3 to 7 ads every day during Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and was on all the cable channels.

Weather is beautiful in Bowling Green. Wife and I voted at noon and the turn out was very light. Sadly that’s probably not a good sign for Bevin. Probably depends on how the vote turns out in the liberal land of Louisville.

A Survey USA poll shows Conway up by 5, but a poll by Vox Populi found it a dead heat with a slight advantage to Bevin. SUSA was way off in 2014 so we’re all hoping and praying for a Bevin win.

Looks like turnout is higher than expect. Likely good news as the theory is turnout needs to exceed 1 million and likely 1.1 million or so votes for Bevin. Likely a sign of the RNC turning out Presidential year republicans at a higher rate like they did in 2014.

That sniveling and sleazy weasel Conway just ran the Republicans patron saint and head goblin, McConnell’s playbook against Bevin.

My polling place was busy for 7:30 this morning, haven’t heard any reports otherwise. But I can tell you that I ran into several conservatives who really didn’t care or were not going to consider bothering to waste their time voting in this election as they put it and I am paraphrasing: the Republicans are just as sleazy and dirty as the Democrats and at this point really does us voting even matter any more, they don’t care about us or what we think... This said by Goldwater/Reagan voters. Thank you GOPE your back stabs and lies are paying off big time!

That’s great - let’s hope so! Even if people are disaffected with the GOP, that shouldn’t stop us from supporting an outsider like Matt Bevin!

Warren County, Bowling Green.
According to predictions in this article, turnout was going to be low at 15%.
But later in the article, some precincts in warren county were close to 50%.
http://www.wbko.com/content/news/Low-voter-turnout-expected-in-todays-elections—339921872.html

So many negative ads against Bevin....
And with KY’s habit of electing Dem governors, I would be surprised if Bevin won.

Someone posted above that Bevin was running against a sitting governor.
He is not...Gov Beshear has served 2 terms and cannot run again. Jack Conway is the dem candidate.

Bevin should have responded by going after Conway for that “Aqua Buddah” coed kidnapping incident.

Last year polls had a pretty narrow race between McConnell and Grimes, and McConnell won by 15 points. Good indication of a well oiled turnout machine. Hopefully it’s being used today.
