There are really only 2 choices it seems to me that make sense: (1) take over a current party, or (2) start a new party and actually work at it.

I understand exactly what you’re saying, but they won anyway. And the current totals in Congress say the liberals have us badly outnumbered 266-127, and 65 to 35. Something like that.

I walked away from the Republicans a while back

I receive National Review and have thought it a good magazine up to the past 3 to 4 years.

It sounds like a dem mouthpiece.

Me, I guess I am conservative libertarian.

You also have to consider the voting games here that they play. We have seen countless examples of it. Likee McCain or McColnell trashing the hell out of an issue, then voting for it knowing full well it will fail so he can tell his voters “See how conservative I am?”

We have at best 5 total we can call ‘ours’. THAT is what we have to ‘work with; in the GOP. Which is a fools errand. Bu staying attached to that leftist group, our numbers give them power. We can bitch all we want. But if you remain GOP, they count you. If you VOTE gop, then why complain in light of the above and all the other problems they cause?

You/whoever KNOW what they are. Empower it or do not. Thats the reality. People staying empower it.

I disagree. As much as a majority of recent politicians have done to diminish the GOP brand, it remains the only viable vehicle for political expression of conservative ideals. It’s high time to take our party back.

The FReepers who refused to support Tancredo in the primaries (and there were a lot of them) are the same people who wine because people refused to vote for McCain or Romney...Apparently Tancredo was too conservative for them...

The very same could be said for Duncan Hunter that same time around - It was my last vote as a Republican (from Reagan to Hunter, I voted exclusively for the 'Big R'). That was the contest that did it for me... And also the contest wherein I quit listening to most FReepers.

Happily Independent now - I vote my conscience and my principles, and I sleep very well at night.

This will be my last primary as a republican and if my guys goes on I will vote for him in the general election. Unless the republican party changes direction I will also be leaving for good.

If there were enough true conservatives in the GOP, then they should be able to take control from the “elite” wing. If not, then we are still a minority and have no chance in the GOP. In that case, the only alternative is a third party, gaining enough seats in Congress to control the agenda. The 2 party system has failed in the duty of checks and balance. Just as the Conservatives in the House succeeded in getting rid of Bonehead, they caved on Ryan. But they did control the agenda. In the Senate, only about 10 seats are needed to change them and control the agenda there.

“This decision has been incubating over the past 17 years, years of watching the downward spiral of the Party of Lincoln and Reagan into the Party of Democrat Lite.”

In other words, the era of Bush - Romney ascendency.

Well, he can’t vote for Cruz, whom he otherwise endorses, in the CO primary in 2016.

Well sure, but they don’t care and why should I change my registration, which BTW would prohibit me from voting for a Repub in the primary, to send a message that they don’t read. Like I said, they are happy in a minority position.

However, should a viable 3rd party arise that is truly conservative and not libertarian or goofball, I would be inclined to jump, considering the damages this current GOP leadership has done.

Underlying all of it, is the stark reality that the populace has been trending liberal for some time now as a result of the usurpers in the education system combined with the media. The DNC is led by total moonbats, with their voters are still largely lib light but trending farther left with each new generation.

But the Obama economy gives us a bit of a pause I think, because the latest crop of skull full of mush cannot find a job much less contribute to a campaign. This weakness gives candidates with a jobs message a leg up, republican’s as well. I guess we shall see.

But I am not blinded by reality. I see our political system in a cascade failure mode. I don’t think you can fix that and when a political system falls apart, it usually ends in violence or internecine warfare.

My dropping or keeping the republican party label will not help or hurt the outcome of this. If anything, like a sports fanatic “fan”, I am still associated with the wrong team, but the alternative is no team at all and no reason to watch the game.

The GOP uses the number you provide to fundraise and as a tool for leverage. Which sounds more impressive to a potential donor, media outlet or voter...

“The 50 million strong Republican Party”

The 5000 strong Republican Party”

Thats why it matters. If your membership in the GOP leaves, they cannot count you. If they cannot count you, they cannot leverage you.

It matters because If we had a 5000 strong GOP, there WOULD be a viable alternative overnight.

How, does one take over a political party full of cats that will not take direction of any kind and exist only due to ego?

The RNC is corrupt.

The DNC is insane and corrupt.

What is there to take over and who would want it?

I keep going back to the Article 5 convention where the States essentially can, if they want to, take over the entire enchilada. They can send everyone home and suspend the constitution and habeas and everything written since it took effect.

They can then reestablish the government. Hold new elections or just appoint, and then repair the constitution without a public vote. That is the most drastic option, but what would likely happen would be much more nuanced.

If the convention fails, then all hell breaks loose...so once it begins, they had better have a come to Jesus moment and do what they need to do.

Failure would be the last governmental act of the United States.

If they were to fail, then I would say flatly that they deserve to fail.
