This typical slime job by Politico operates on several levels. All symbolic, all indirect; which is typical of the Left’s snark masquerading as wit.
1. It dredges up their ancient hatreds. Goldwater might have long ago been buried, but he remains an endless goldmine of hate for the Left. Never mind that LBJ actually practiced all the horrible racism that Goldwater was supposedly guilty of and never mind that LBJ wasted 10’s of thousands of American lives in a war when Goldwater was portrayed as the warmonger. The truth is irrelevant to the Left. It’s all about the dogma.
2. The article pushes the meme of Conservative = mentally ill.
3. Why was the article written now? Why of course so the reader could reflect how there must be mentally ill candidates running for the Presidency right now! Who could they be?
It’s all very tiring.
For someone who was never actually elected president, it is nice to see that Goldwater is still living rent free in liberals’ heads, Sarah Palin style.
Hmmm.. better yet, could America elect a non-citizen closet Muzzie? That sounds pretty sick to me.
