Gotta redline the inflation procedure, again:
Step 1: Before inflating, secure the tether.
” ... And we need 2? Is that a typical government featherbedding?”
Standard air defense practice to send a flight of two. Cuts down on unknowns, and reduces risks necessarily associated with them. Higher probability of success, if weapons have to be launched (more weapons = more likelihood the target will be hit and destroyed).
Of course, F-16 reliability is so poor that it’s always prudent to send more than one.
Don’t diss my F-16.
Great versatile plane.
I was going to write that the US Navy (and not the US Army) should be in control of such craft. However, I painfully remember a Navy blimp that escaped its dock, carrying away dutiful US Navy crewmembers to their eventual deaths.

I recalled that incident as well. First thing I thought of. Good sailors, RIP.
JLENS is supposed to integrate with air defense artillery, including the Patriot system, so the Army was its natural home.
“Don’t diss my F-16. ...”
The F-16 may be OLR’s favorite, but that tells us nothing about its capabilities. Is it safe, efficient, effective, or durable? No. It’s what we have. What we’re stuck with.
