VANITY - My plan to win the funding debate.
Vanity | 10/27/15 | Me

Posted on 10/27/2015 5:38:19 PM PDT by nitzy

I posted this in another thread but I would like to know (besides the obvious reason of (R) cowardice) why this plan wouldn't work?

1.) The House passes a budget that defunds amnesty, defunds PP, defunds the Iran deal, defunds Obamacare.
2.) The Senate attempts to vote on it.
3.) The Democrats filibuster.
4.) The deadline passes.
5.) The government shuts down.
6.) The Republicans "change the rules of the Senate" so that budget bills cannot be filibustered after the government is shut down.
7.) The Senate passes the budget.
8.) Obama vetoes the budget.
9.) The Republicans take to the airwaves and say the following....

"We have 54 (plus probably a couple more Dem) votes to override the President's veto. We need 10(ish) more Democrats to join with us to fund the government. Why do Democrats care more about giving $100 Billion to Iran than they do to funding our own military??? Why do Democrats care more about funding Planned Parenthood than providing vital services to our children??? Why do Democrats care more about protecting Obamacare than protecting the American people??? Why do Democrats care more about importing illegal alien workers than funding the government keeping our federal employees working??? Why do the Democrats want to shut down the government if they don't get everything they want???

Call your Democrat Senator and tell them to vote to override the veto and fund the government."

At that point it becomes 10 Democrats holding up the whole country for 4 very unpopular policies.

They will fold.

TOPICS: Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS: budget; funding; senate
I am just so sick of losing. If we had leaders with a spine who even proposed this plan and had the balls to stick to it, Obama would back down in an instant.

All we would need to find would be 13 Democrats who cared more about funding the government (or protecting their jobs) than they did about following their party.

The Republicans take to the airwaves and say the following....

And therein is the Pubbies problem - they don't have an effective PR operation and when they do get in front of the cameras - it's turkey neck and the drunk - people immediately change the channel or tune them out.

When Ted Cruz speaks - the MSM intentionally blacks out his statements / appearances because they know he speaks intelligently and to the facts and they just can't have that - it goes against the meme they have created.

I agree with you 100%.

Sadly, we don’t have any leaders in Congress that know the rules or have the balls to try this.

Problem with your strategy is you cannot name the thirteen democrat who would vote to over-ride the veto.
