“We as a group wanted to stay together to support a true conservative candidate for president — one who will stand up for and defend the Constitution,” Darwin Deason said in a statement.

You just have to love the politically ignorant on our side.

What do billionaire donors get?

What do donors who give $500 get?

I'm afraid Cruz will be owned.

If a candidate getting donations means he will be owned, then by your standards, no one could get elected because it means getting donations, which means they would be owned.

I don't trust any donor/supporter/worker who donated/supported/worked for any other candidate.

So a candidate is supposed to win only by the initial donors/supporters/workers they attract? Then why campaign at all? Campaigning is about swaying not only undecided donors/supported/workers, but also influencing those who support other candidates into supporting your cause.

Looks like Cruz understands that the road to the White House isn’t a sprint.

Given their comments, I’m not so sure they’re on our side.

Cruz is already on shaky ground because of his support of INCREASED H1B Visas. It's been established that way too often these workers are used to take jobs from US workers and to undermine salaries. Then there's Cruz getting played on the trade deals.

I'm not comfortable with his having deep-pocket donors who are shopping for a candidate.

FWIW, Cruz may not be my #2 any more. But that's just me.

Ted Cruz has been very vocal when speaking to the donor class about running to represent all the people and not just the big donors.

Much like when he spoke to the Iowa Agricultural Summit and told them that he would not support the renewable fuel standards or ethanol subsidies. Instead he spoke about easing regulation and taxation so farmers can find their own path to prosperity through smaller government.

The people screeching about big donors are sounding too much like the far left for my comfort.

What do they get for their money?

A president that believes in and follows the Constitution. A president that not only espouses but lives conservative principles. Not a bad thing in which to invest.

True conservatives still support Citizens United. These are Trumpeteers who are railing against the “rich” whenever one supports someone other than Trump.

While citizens United was and is imperfect, its a whole hell of a lot better than only very wealthy individuals being able to afford to run for office.

If only the very rich are able to run we end up with a pool of only a few hundred people to choose from and many of them are very liberal like Bill Gates, Tom Steyer, Geoffry Imelt etc.

The argument over aristocracy is what broke the friendship between Jefferson and Adams.
