Cruz blocked again on renaming street for Chinese dissident

Senate Democrats on Thursday for a second time blocked a proposal from Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) to rename the street in front of the Chinese Embassy in Washington for a Chinese dissident.

Cruz, who is running for president, tried to get unanimous consent to pass a resolution that would name the street in front of the embassy "Liu Xiaobo Plaza" after Liu Xiaobo, a human rights activist currently imprisoned in China. It would also change the embassy's address to "1 Liu Xiaobo Plaza."

"Standing together with a wrongfully imprisoned Nobel Peace laureate, we should say to the wrongfully imprisoned dissidents around the world, America hears you and we stand with you," he said from the Senate floor.

But the Texas Republican was blocked by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), who also objected to a similar request from Cruz late last month.

Before the objection, Cruz, in a veiled jab at the California Democrat, read from a statement by Feinstein and Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) in which they call for the Chinese government to release the dissident.

But Feinstein fired back that "believe it or not, I have actually played a role … in helping dissidents to be released by the government of China and had some success."

"We did that by talking to the government," she added. "I think to do this in this way will set back the cause."

Is that elderly lady still under House Arrest? How sad, and petty of China. This has been going on for years.

Every day, Ted Cruz is doing the same things that Churchill did before World War II.

The liberal establishment hated Churchill and tried to drive him out of Parliament.

But, time and history proved him correct and he was the one man who saved Britain from annihilation.

I believe history will record that Ted Cruz will be the man who saves America.

I hate it when politicians rename streets for political purposes.

Feinstein is required by her CA constituency to support communism.

The tradition has “stunt” written all over it. A memorial to the dissident lady might make more sense.

Can you point to something parallel to this?

Churchill wasn’t a completely good guy either, even on political record. There was a time when he was uncomfortably in favor of eugenics. Maybe the Nazis finally proved the lesson that this was el wrongo and he got straight and whoopee for him. God furnished what we needed, not what we might have privately reveled in.

Sen. Ted Cruz Crushes Liberal Senator On Human Rights Hypocrisy (9/24/15) - after they rejected to rename the street (video)

By the way, during President Reagan, the Congress renamed the street in front of the USSR embassy to the name of Soviet dissident, Andrei Sakharov.

Check this article:

Ich bin ein Bejinger

“Ronald Reagan understood that standing for human rights actually strengthens our diplomatic hand,” Sen. Cruz told me. “It highlights the very principles that make our nation great.” He stressed that it is not a question of whether or not to talk to our adversaries, but “we don’t have to grant them moral parity. We don’t have to check our values at the negotiating-room door.”

Spam graphic again based on arbitrary ratings.

No different than that BS that came out saying Ted Cruz was a B- Christian and Huck was an A.

It’s all arbitrary and designed to promote whoever the rater is.
