what about all those things other FReepers brought up?
they sound pretty bad.
i dont know what to think now.
I LOVED Cruz before all that was exposed.
I WILL vote for the Donald because if he does half of what he says, thing will get better.
Carson seems a bit kooky.
Was Dean in politics before the election. I know he was a doctor and a nut, but i think he was a governor/senator?
Who is your choice?
mark for later
It’s obvious that the Dems value the “illegal” portion of their voter base and won’t give that up without a fight.
“Have obama JAILED IMMEDIATELY!”
In the cell right next to Hillary.
Don’t believe all Freepers. The forum is infested with subversives. Some are subtle, some not.
500 percent increase in H1Bs is bad.
the TPP agreement vote was bad.
Voting for Corkers 2/3 bill was bad.
I dont know what to think.
Haven’t seen 1stDivionVet lately. Hope he is ok.
He would refute all this stuff, no doubt.
Problem with Cruz is that he’s spoken with forked tongue on this issue. His amendment to the Gang of Eight bill, though he uses it as an example of him railing against amnesty, would only have barred illegals from a pathway to citizenship. It would not have barred them from receiving permanent residence in this country, which would lead to them getting citizenship anyway:
And Id like to make a final point to those advocacy groups that are very engaged in this issue and rightly concerned about addressing our immigration system, and in particular about addressing the situation for the 11 million who are currently in the shadows. If this amendment is adopted to the current bill the effect would be that those 11 million under this current bill would still be eligible for RPI status.** They would still be eligible for legal status and indeed under the terms of the bill they would be eligible for LPR status as well, so that they are out of the shadows, which the proponents of this bill repeatedly point to as their principle objective to provide a legal status for those who are here illlegally to be out of the shadows. This amendment would allow that to happen
And a second point to those advocacy groups that are so passionately engaged. In my view if this committee rejects this amendment, and I think everyone here views it as quite likely this committee will choose to reject this amendment, in my view that decision will make it much, much more likely that this entire bill will fail in the House of Representantives. I dont want immigration reform to fail. I want immigration reform to pass, and so I would urge people of good faith on both sides of the aisle, if the objective is to pass common sense immigration reform that secures the borders, that improves legal immigration, and that allows those who are here illegally to come in out of the shadows, then we should look for areas of bipartisan agreement and compromise to come together and this amendment I believe if this amendment were to pass the chances of this bill passing into law would increase dramatically, and so I would urge the committee to give it full consideration and to adopt the amendment.

Another article on this topic, describing how Cruz redefines amnesty as only referring to a pathway to citizenship, and wont declare he supports deportation:
Cruz’s positions here in this speech are good, but one can’t help but get the feeling that Cruz is selling this as a Pre-Amnesty compromise that, even in what he declares, will probably be rendered ineffective in its final form. IOW, he’ll argue that he’ll “stop what brings illegals,” but then turn around and declare amnesty for the 11 million (actually 40 million) illegals here, though he probably won’t call it amnesty. It’s easy to say that you’ll deport “criminal” illegals. That’s what Obama says he is doing.
2ND Division!! sorry VET!!!
‘FReepers have destroyed Ted............’
oh most Certainly
It was in the middle of a battle which Ted Cruz and a few senators fought against the 'Gang of 8' amnesty bill. He offered an amendment to counteract pro-illegal immigration provisions of the amnesty bill.
I, and many people, are grateful that Ted Cruz led this fight. Otherwise, they would have approved amnesty already.
Remember this fight in 2013?

What are TPA and TPP?
TPA stands for Trade Promotion Authority, also known as fast track. TPA is a process by which trade agreements are approved by Congress. Through TPA, Congress sets out up-front objectives for the Executive branch to achieve in free trade negotiations; in exchange for following those objectives, Congress agrees to hold an up-or-down vote on trade agreements without amendments. For the past 80 years, it has proven virtually impossible to negotiate free-trade agreements without the fast-track process.
TPP stands for Trans-Pacific Partnership. TPP is a specific trade agreement currently being negotiated by the United States and 11 other countries, including Canada, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. China is not a negotiating partner. There is no final language on TPP because negotiations are still ongoing and have been since late 2009. Neither the Senate nor the House has voted yet on the TPP. There will be no vote on TPP until the negotiations are over and the final agreement is sent to Congress.

[In addition to stripping certain federal funds from sanctuary jurisdictions, the legislation also incorporates critical elements of Kates Law, which Sen. Cruz introduced earlier this year, by imposing a five-year mandatory minimum sentence on any alien who illegally reenters the country after having been convicted of an aggravated felony or two prior illegal reentry offenses.]
One of any number of things that makes me so angry at Congress. Essentially, an illegal who comes back after committing a felony or comes back for the third time gets a five year sentence. Why doesn’t he get a mandatory sentence when he commits the felony or the second time he shows up. Like, how many chances does he get to illegally come? How many crimes of what kind can he commit before he gets a mandatory sentence?
Why can’t the Senate write straight forward bills? Why dozens of ammendments? And while on my rant, why reduce federal funding to cities not obeying the law? Why not just start putting people in jail? If a mayor or police chief can pick and choose which laws to enforce can I pick and choose which ones I can break and get a pass?
