Trump is like Reagan and the media is clueless about it
The Hill ^ | 10/19/2015 | Ann Coulter

Neurotically ignoring the fact that Donald Trump’s position on immigration has catapulted him to the lead for the Republican presidential nomination, the media diminish his soaring poll numbers with a scrolling series of rationalizations. Trump might or might not be the nominee, but the dismissals of him are wishful thinking, not historical fact.

All summer, for example, we were smugly assured that polls mean nothing this far in advance of an election. Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-Fla.) campaign manager Terry Sullivan assured Politico: “Show me the candidate who was first place in August who ended up winning in February.” I hope Rubio’s advisers are as sure about this as they were about amnesty being a big hit with voters. Then it was September, and Trump was still in first place, so Rubio boasted to CNN, “We want to be in first place in February, not in August or September.”

The way things are going, at some point, Rubio’s line will have to be, “We want to be in first place in March, not in February. No, wait! We want to be first place in June, not in April.” In fact, most candidates who were in first place the summer before an election year went on to be the nominee. Luckily, Politico is not a website primarily concerned with politics or it might have known this. Among them: Ronald Reagan in August 1979, Walter Mondale in August 1983, Michael Dukakis (tied for first) in August 1987, Bob Dole in August 1995; George W. Bush in August 1999 and Mitt Romney in August 2011.

The media is insane to compare him to Reagan. He is nothing like Reagan.

Comparing Trump to Reagan Should Be a Slappable Offense

Yeah...he’s actually *better* than Reagan, at least on the issue of illegal immigration.

You are delusional. If Trump ever gets the chance, he will implement a weaponized form of amnesty. Trump has zero credibility on immigration. You are letting the media turn your skull into mush.

Reagan would never personally attack opponents — especially fellow Republicans — on the scale Trump does.

Trump couldn’t carry Reagan’s jockstrap.

I guess the fact that his business depends on illegals, he said Romney was too tough on immigration, hired a campaign manager who is an amnesty activist, and has a history of saying things for attention means nothing. You have let the media rot your brain.

The media is insane to compare him to Reagan. He is nothing like Reagan.

He might be like Andrew Jackson, or like Rockefeller Jr. (the same way Donald took over from his father Fred), maybe even a Manhattan version of Huey Long, but Reagan? Looking for Reagan today is like the Dems looking for FDR; it ain't gonna happen, because RR came from another time. Cruz is our best hope, but Trump is what seems to be selling among the "let's fix the mess" electorate.

the comparison isn’t about the personality of the men it’s about the message resonating with grass root Americans,,, there it is strikingly similar

Nick, Trump is actually better than Reagan! Reagan was a great leader and a great communicator. Trump is both of those two things, but he is also a great builder. He is also unpredictable in the way he handles the tactics of getting his strategy implemented. Read his books over the past 30 years and you will see that he has been consistent on wanting to make America Great Again!

Trump has a history of changing his opinion. I think (and hope) he has said whatever he was thinking at the time he spoke, even when it was a democratic policy position. A professional politician is more careful and at least tries to avoid the label of a flip floper, but is probably less likely to say what he really thinks.
Normal people have a certain stickiness to their opinions. Those that are not true believers in an ideology may take inconsistent positions over the years. I think Trump is more like normal people in these maters. Even so, I think he will attempt to maintain his current position if for no other reason than that he has said it so often.
A true believer in a consistent set of political positions is better still, but we might just have to accept the nominee we get rather than the perfect nominee we hope for.

Remember Reagan’s 11th Commandment. Never attack a fellow Republican. Trump violates that commandment every time he opens his mouth.

“Trump has peaked. He’s going down”.

That’s what they’ll all say as Trump wins the first 5 states in the primaries (of which he is holding commanidng leads).

Trump will have this thing wrapped up by April.
