I’m dreading to see next year’s copays.
Got my 2016 plans a few days ago: Only good news is max out-of-pocket goes from $6700 to $4000.

I have Medicare Advantage. The 2016 premium will go up 100% for essentially a worse plan. See my post 21 for some details.

If you're not on SS or Medicare how would you even know about a future premium increase?

You read the news, like this article.

You can also use the premium calculator here:

Eligibility & Premium Calculator

That presumes they update it before the end of the year. Currently, it estimates the 2015 premium. They'll also have to add an option about whether you are receiving Social Security benefits.

Another question - if straight Medicare covers about 80% of a subscriber's medical costs, why not throw in the "missing" 20% and cover it all?

Two reasons: it will add 25% to a program that is already underfunded, and "free" medical care with no co-pay will increase consumption even more.

And - why are some Advantage and (especially) Supplemental plans so expensive if they're only covering that missing 20%?

The supplemental programs are funded by premiums, and don't have the advantage of being funded by the government to make up the shortfall.

I have similar but not identical numbers
Many of the coverages have gone from a dollar figure to a percentage - most to 20%. (See my post 21 for some of my plan details.)
What I don't get - if Medicare alone covers about 80% of my medical costs, why am I (we) paying an Advantage plan premium and still being charged 20% for some services?
It's as if my Advantage plan isn't actually covering that service.

Underfunded? We cover illegals with free care. Most Medicaid people pay nothing. We spend BILLIONs in foreign aid.
Yeah, I know, I'm preaching to the choir.

My costs for the rental of my propane tank have gone up 60.6%.

My monthly vehicle insurance has gone up over 6%.

Last accident was in 1966. No tickets.
Don’t drink—Don’t smoke & don’t have a cell phone.

FREEZE our income, saying the inflation has been flat & then double Medicate premiums.

It is already a nightmare to find a doctor. Many have left the medical system entirely.

Sure is evident that Medicare premiums are NOT included in the calculations for inflation at the Fed level.

Well, somebody's got to pay for the white trash, illegal mexicans and the gibsmedats.

Now, please excuse me as I must get back to work because the bums, with the full support of the government and ultimately at the point of a gun, demand I work even harder because they need the "free stuff" they've been promised and which they've been told they're entitled to ... they're sure as hell aren't going to do anything to earn it.

my carrier is Humana.

I could probably get a better price from united, my previous carrier where the monthly rate was $0 but my Doctor no longer accepts United because “the didn’t pay their bills”

My copays have risen but not like some noted here. It i guess a regional thing

the best part is both of us are in pretty good shape and don’t have a great demand and thus not much real expense. I dread the day that changes

Stephanie Armour And Anne Tergesen need to understand someone has to pay for the ‘needs’ of illegals flooding our country. And it might as well be Americans who worked their whole lives...

One more reason to vote for Trump... he cares about the citizens of this country MORE than the citizens of other countries. Which is how it’s suppose to be...

” I guess it is a regional thing”—lol

YA THINK! up here at the MAYO Clinic- you know
The clinic O’bummer touts-!

WAS REJECTED for the complete ACA - because of costs
ETC.- !- people in Southern Minnesota PAY UP TO
4 TIMES the cost than in other parts of the STATE!!-

Hey who is going to pay for THE MILLIONS of illegals-
and NEW immigrants-? - need a pancreas ? liver?

Think these people have any money?- they are coming after
yours- too bad- blame it on (take your pick):

A. gouging hospitals
B. Drug companies
C. Over paid Doctors ! -(my favorite)
D. over paid nurses- in unions!

Sorry I am so sarcastic ..but O’bummer care has ruined
the great American health industry as we KNEW it.

We can understand seniors ending their earning years and needing the zero plans.
There are also a number of people who are truly disabled and we should understand their needs as well.

Our problems arise in all these other groups jumping on the band wagon.

#1 Probably women with children who have no marriage or support from their sperm donor.
#2 Low income people who either work gray market jobs not showing income or who don’t want to work to remain on the dole.
They don’t care if they are tagged for life to owe stuff because rarely do those kinds of people aspire to work long hard hours to earn new cars or homes.

So we need to end free stuff for able bodied younger people and we have to inspire women to quit opening their legs to allow men to get them pregnant out of wedlock.

Poverty at this point should not be enabled so much that nobody wants to work.

Those issues along with expensive court actions are why you and other see these costs go up and are hurting IMO.

I am working and all, but even I am blown away by the costs these days.

I pay $5000 a year for my lower insurance. Lost my doctor of course and was thrown into the exchange.

Bronze plan with $6500 deductible is $5000 a year. $11,500 if I need to use it.

Cheating neighbors were bragging they falsify stuff and pay NOTHING for a plan 7 tiers over my own.

The system is messed up.
The middle class get the bad plans and the people who don’t earn a living get much better plans for free. That is wrong.

All of which are funded by federal income/excise taxes.

Medicare and Social Security are self-funded by a separate payroll tax.

If you want a piece of the larger federal budget, just say so. But, you'll have to get in line along with everyone else.

I'm sure no pressure was put on Congress by Big Pharma's lobbyists.

A year ago I'd have laughed at the suggestion. This year I think he may be our last hope.
He's the only Republican with the gonads to end PC.
