It's more a collection of foreigners than Americans. Every time we go there all I hear are foreign languages around Central Park and at the Museum of Natural History. (Ebonics is a foreign language, too)
I’m a Native New Yorker, Brooklyner (LOL) and I’m Italian.
Moved away years ago, but all my Relatives back there no matter their Party Affiliation Voted for Rudy.
He should have run for Governor of New York instead of pursuing the Presidency IMHO.

Unfortunately, no, there isn’t a big German vote in the city - most of my fellow German-Americans moved to the suburbs long ago. :) And of course, you are correct about the groups that were mostly responsible for gifting us with Wilhelm/DiBlasio/whatever. Though as a disclaimer, I also know conservatives from most of the groups mentioned.
You are also right that the Upper East Side used to be known as German Town - East 86th Street used to be full of German restaurants and stores. There is still a German-American parade every September that ends up in that neighborhood. And in 1999, the Grand Marshall was - Donald Trump! As for the Jewish vote, they supported Rudy 67 percent!!! And bloomberg too (who was alot better than the alternative).
Bush II did very well with the hispanic vote in 2000.
Christie won 20 percent of blacks!!
So it can be done with all three groups.

My uncle will refer to that area as German Town until he dies :) he’s 82.
Not sure why Little Italy is still called that. Many areas in Staten Island, Queens, Brooklyn and even Bronx are much more Italian.
We just have to figure out how to do it on a national level regularly.
The parade is on the third Saturday of September every year. Next year’s anticipated date is September 17, so put it on your calendar! It’s not super-crowded like Saint Patrick’s or the Puerto Rican parade, but a fun afternoon on 5th Avenue. And there are usually some Oktoberfest-style parties in the neighborhood afterward.
Seems like the right candidate can sometimes break out of the expected “group” voting patterns, and I think Trump might do the same. In my thinking I compare him on a national level to what Giuliani did here in NYC.
Blessings on your uncle. Same generation as my father, who would be 86 if he was still with us. Love hearing the older generations talk about their lives and experiences!

Yorkville/Germantown on the Upper East Side has hardly any ethnic Euros left. They’ve all moved to Rye or Manhasset. You can still see some buildings from the time it was heavily German. Also Hungarians. I believe the neighborhood has ONE German restaurant left. Don’t know about now, but there used to be an absolutely wonderful Hungarian restaurant on either York or 1st.
My very blonde, very blue-eyed mother grew up there, and everyone thought she was German, tho her recent ancestry was 100% Irish. (we don’t want to go back to the Vikings/Spaniards and others who may have visited the Auld Sod)

My cousin married an Irish girl. Boy did she marry into an Italian family.
I tease my cousin. He has two sons and i always say how’s the Irish kid doing? :) He’s the one that looks Irish.
He also LOOKS like Jude Law except much prettier/handsome.
Already have offers for commercials etc, but they dont know if they want to go down that route.
Irish gals can be Gorgeous also!! Dated a few in my youth. :)

Wow.... known several blonde/blue Italians, but no Sicilians. That’s impressive.
One of my nephews married a woman whose dad was Irish, mother Italian. They had two beautiful daughters. Same as your cousin’s kids, one of the daughters looks 100% Irish, the other 100% Italian. I think those Euro ethnic families in NYC married ‘out’ a bit. My extended family probably contains descendants from 90% of the Western Euro countries. At least they all think of themselves as 100% American.
You are correct, the German restaurant is Heidelberg, on 2nd Avenue between 85th and 86th. There used to be a wonderful and inexpensive Hungarian restaurant called Mocca, but unfortunately it closed a few years ago.
There is still a German Lutheran Church, on East 84th between 1st and 2nd Avenue. They have services in German and English, and some German cultural events as well.
As you noted, the formerly ethnic, working-class neighborhood has become a well-to-do yuppie extension of the Upper East Side. But there are a few ethnic traces left.
Ah, we have Spanish, Colombian, Irish, Polish...well, that’s about it lol.
But that’s from the Staten Island generation.
This next one will be MUCH different because they have moved to many different locations.
My nephews get a kick out of me because I’m still ethnic and they REALLY get a kick out of my uncles in their 80s :)

Yeah, New York wouldn’t elect someone who campaigned on being pro-life, pro-gun and anti-homosexual. I think those were far from his core beliefs that he would want to push on the country. He’s a New York Republican in the same mold as Trump, who’s successfully flip-flopped on those issues for the national election. Rudy would’ve been a far better candidate than McCain or Romney and probably more conservative than either. He might make an interesting V.P. choice for Trump too. Rudy has spoken very well of Trump on Fox News.
I think the Jews and Asians see the Republicans as the party of Christians which doesn’t work for them for obvious reasons.
