McConnell’s Last Stand: He Wants Medicare, Social Security Cuts to Raise Debt Limit
The Fiscal Times via Yahoo Mews ^ | October 13, 2015 | Rob Garver

In case anyone thought things couldn’t get more chaotic on Capitol Hill, Senate Majority Mitch McConnell appears ready to set them straight. McConnell, according to a report first published by CNN, plans to make several major demands of the White House, including changes to Medicare, Social Security, and EPA regulations as his price for raising the nation’s debt limit. The report from CNN’s Manu Raju complicates the already fraught debate over whether and how to increase the Treasury Department’s ability to borrow the money it needs to pay the nation’s debts. Failure to allow additional borrowing would, at some point in early November, force the United States into default. U.S. government debt is viewed as the safest in the world – the closest thing there is to a risk-free asset. Allowing the government to default on its obligations would send shock waves throughout not just the U.S., but the global economy.

Has anyone said anything recently, about Obama acting on his own to continue government spending above the debt limit, based on the 14th amendment?

We heard some talk of this a few years ago during the debt limit battle at that time. The liberals adopted the view at that time, that the 14th amendment contains language to the effect that the government debt will not be questioned, will be paid, etc. The liberals claimed that the debt limit increase legislation is not really needed, because Obama could act on his own to “pay ongoing government liabilities” and use the 14th amendment as his cover.

Pure BS. The US takes in more than enough revenue to cover all of its debt servicing costs. There is no way the US is going to default.

Simple solution.

Bill the people that demanded we elect lesser evils like Mitch. Make them pay the cost. They wanted him so they are fully responsible for what he does.

“McConnell ... plans to make several major demands of the White House, including changes to Medicare, Social Security, and EPA regulations as his price for raising the nation’s debt limit.”

This is hilarious. McConnell taking a “stand”? He’s standing on two banana peels, facing backwards on the down escalator.

You know, if you idiots in DC worried more about us and less about getting reelected, you’d have no problems cutting spending. But you can’t do that. You are so used to buying votes, like cell phones for deadbeats, that you can’t say no to anyone for fear of pissing someone off. Well, the way it stands now you’re pissing off the people who pay the bills via taxes and we don’t see much coming back our way. My SS check has increased about 1% since that fool took office, but welfare payments and subsidies are up almost 33%. You’ve already crossed the line, since there are now more freeloaders than tax payers. Just how long do you think that can prevail?

McConnell ... wants to reduce the annual cost of living adjustment to the Social Security payments
For the last six years ... That averages out to about 1.4% per year ... and the SOB wants to reduce it further? MFer ought to be shot.
BTW - with all those "raises," SS recipients also get a corresponding increase in their Medicare premiums.

Social Security Cuts? He’s doing everything he possibly can to throw this next election to the Democrats, isn’t he?

Yes, SS is in a death spiral, and yes, that needs to be dealt with. But all of the poll internals indicate that it is still a very dangerous third rail. Now is not the time.

So let me get this straight... a lifetime politician who’s exempt from Obamacare and has a better healthcare plan than most Americans with a fatI RA account, a government pensio plan, and lots of $$$$ in the bank wants the rest of US to have reduced Medical care benefits and social security to live on? Where are Harry Reid’s workout buddies when we need them?

Cash Mitch’s pension, and confiscate the 20+ million he got in business “payoffs” first.

They need to do something about the Social Security disability program, which is about to exhaust its trust fund.

Probably should rate people like the VA does and offer incentives to employers to hire disabled people.

A 10% disability rating might trigger a $1.45/hour hiring incentive to an employer for the first 1000 hours of employment in a calendar year.

Lots of things could replace his liberal ideas. But I really think that voters should be made to pay financially when their choices impact the country negatively.

Eliminate the anonymous ballot and bill the voters directly for the actions of those they elected. If Americans no longer want to vote in the interests of their country then they have abandoned their responsibilities as Americans and should abandon their rights along with it. Rights come with responsibilities and the reverse is also true.

McConnell cannot be trusted. If he wanted entitlement reform he would have been laying the groundwork for months. He has not. The only logical conclusion is he’s lying again.
