Madison Rebecca Bradley was sworn in as a state Supreme Court justice on Monday and soon afterward participated in oral arguments.
Chief Justice Patience Roggensack made a brief mention of Bradley's appointment to the court just before arguments but did not dwell on it.
"I think you will notice we have a full complement of justices," she told those gathered for arguments.
GOP Gov. Scott Walker appointed Bradley to the bench Friday to replace Justice N. Patrick Crooks, who died Sept. 21. Crooks had said he was not going to run for re-election next year, and Bradley was one of three candidates who had announced she was running for the seat.
She will stand for election for a full 10-year term in the spring. A Feb. 16 primary will narrow the field to two candidates for the April 5 general election. Also running are Milwaukee Circuit Judge Joe Donald and Appeals Judge JoAnne Kloppenburg. Madison attorney Claude Covelli has said he is considering running as well.
Bradley was sworn in at about 8:45 a.m., an hour before arguments began, according to the court.
Walker appointed Bradley to the District 1 Court of Appeals in Milwaukee in May. She has now given up that seat, and Walker will appoint her replacement.
Before her stint as an appeals judge, Bradley spent three years on the Milwaukee County Circuit Court, after Walker put her on that court in 2012.

The first case Rebecca Bradley heard was over whether to suspend the law license of Gerald Boyle, a high-profile attorney accused of putting client money into the wrong accounts, accepting fees without a written agreement and missing deadlines for filing lawsuits. Boyle argues such a sanction is too harsh

Rebecca Bradley sworn in; hears first case. I’m surprised that Gerry Boyle (Jeffrey Dahmer attorney) is facing a punishment like this. His daughter faced a similar charge several years ago. Who is managing his office? He does not appear to be in good health, and that could be the reason for this apparent sloppiness.

Bullshine. Any self-respecting politician would have done exactly what Walker did and appointed someone qualified and someone they want to win the election.
In the meantime, the media and democrats are all busy changing the sheets on their wet beds.
The groups website says it emphasizes reordering priorities within the legal system to place a premium on individual liberty, traditional values and the rule of law over what it describes as orthodox liberal ideology which advocates a centralized and uniform society.’

She also mentions ‘I was blessed with parents who instilled in their four children a strong work ethic, the importance of education, and the value of a strong family. My sisters are stay-at-home mothers.’
