The naysayers on the thread, grouse over mole hills and forget to attribute to Newt the climb to the mountain top changes that led to victory in 1994.

Newt ran the joint, that’s for sure.

The party guys in the House despised him for it, but he ran off the crook Jim Wright, from Texas, right out of the speakership, took over the House of Representatives because he met the Democrat domination head on, with his 10 Point Plan from Hell, and along with it restored Republicans to the largest majority in 40 years.

The man knows the job, the Constitution, and the politics of the day, has followed the trends, stayed engaged, and would be of great help, even if the House simply agreed to hear him out. THAT is what he agreed to, on Hannity. He also said if a citizen had 218 votes, no man would walk away from the service to his country.

All men are flawed. So is Newt and so are each of us here, pecking away at those who represent us, who are also flawed and ambitious. Newt would be of great counsel to these people.

They should invite him to put his mind to a speaking engagement.

Actually if we draft someone who is not a sitting senator to be speaker, doesn’t that effectively give us another vote. Or at least in the case of a tie?

Post of the week! Who can argue with facts... Also Newt had to deal with Billy frigging Clinton and still did an outstanding job. I think it would work separate the men from the who really loves American!

Nicely said.

I don’t like it, but the fact is, Democrats exist. They must be dealt with, but not caved in to every rime on every issue.

I could smack Newt upside the head sometimes, but can equally cheer for him when he’s right. He did what Trump talks about all the time. He negotiated, he made deals. He was effective. Boehner is and has always been, a mess.

Yeah, he only gave the House to Republicans for the first time in forty years.

They booted him out and squandered what he left them and then went about the business of spending us into oblivion. I believe Newt is the best of those that are seeking SOTH or that have been mentioned.

Not only all that, but he knows how to smack the media in the face more than almost anyone too..........and is one of the only politicians of his generation that has the will and ability to do it......

That alone would be worth having him back.......

I have been strongly opposed to Newt getting back into things, until right now.

For some reason the idea no longer bothers me. If he’s ready to come back, I say let him come back.

One thing I like about Newt is that he is a fighter, and as far as I could see when he was Speaker before, he tried to do things that were good for the country.

He had his work cut out for him against the DEMS but he got some good things done. Welfare to Work comes to mind. Of course Ovomit got rid of that immediately.

Newt would make it difficult for groups of Congress Critters to gang up against him on things that would be good for the country because Newt would go public and name names!

He’s a real hero. He’s an OPEN Borders fraud. Loves the illegals just like the rest of them. He pissed away the 1994 revolution. Got nothing done. I dealt personally with this guy....watched him betray conservatives on vote after vote including blocking any action on Affirmative Action. Watched his personal behavior destroy his Speaker-ship. I know all about this guy.

I’d elect him Speaker if I could,
but none of us have a vote.

Do you mean to tell us that you'll be willing to swallow hard and grit your teeth and blot out of your mind that mile wide GANG-GREEN streak up and down his back? And the picture of him nearly holding hands with Nancy with the cracking face on that couch?

Please! We're not that desperate!! Yes, he did some great things along with Delay, and that other guy from TX whose name escapes me... The Freedom Works guy that used to wear cowboy boots with CONgressional seals on 'em...

You know, there's a verse in the Bible about behaving like a dog that returns to it's own puke. Sorry, it's what all this swooning over Newt and his helmet-haired wife reminded me of!!!

Maybe I missed something, but doesn't the Speaker need to be a member of Congress? Last I checked, Newt isn't.

He was really not what what he said he was. The house did some good things in that era, but on the really important things: the border, affirmative Action, Facing down Clinton...he was no where to be found. He could not go after Clinton cause he was also screwing around on his wife. He was run out of the house cause he was ruining the GOP....people forget.

No the Speaker of the House does not have to be a sitting member of Congress. Anyone can run.
