Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump leaves a campaign event September 23, 2015 in Columbia, South Carolina.
The two leading Republican presidential candidates real-estate mogul Donald Trump and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson had very different reactions to the mayhem in Washington on Thursday.
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-California) was expected to easily have the speaker's race sewn up.
But instead, McCarthy suddenly exited the race and threw the legislative chamber into disarray.
Trump, the Republican front-runner, said McCarthy made the right decision because he wasn't tough enough.
"Great, Kevin McCarthy drops out of SPEAKER race. We need a really smart and really tough person to take over this very important job!" Trump tweeted. "Washington (D.C.) is such a mess - nothing works! I will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! It's not going to happen with anyone else."
Later in the day, Trump gave a campaign speech in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he said unnamed people were giving him "a lot of credit" for McCarthy's exit because he publicly called for House Speaker John Boehner's (R-Ohio) replacement to be a tough negotiator.

Trump has already changed the entire political landscape.
Well when the Mariner and the SubMareener agree, it must be true! ;-)
Trump lit the fire ... And it also doubles for popping popcorn
He’s right.
Someone had to, and it was ONLY going to come from an OUTSIDER

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS!
Trump gets elected, and this is just the beginning of frauds and cheats who'll be exposed and run like rats in an infested warehouse.
The GOPe is reported to be weeping in the aisles. I guess they will really miss Boner. There is no doubt the result will be a compromise, but maybe the new guy will treat his colleagues in the House with greater respect.
If they were smart they’d elect him Speaker.
The backbone should have been there a long time ago to change things in the House, now that Trump is out there its become obvious they had better do something.
A fake emotional pretend conservative candidate who is really a Boehner in disguise is not an option.
From the authentically conservative group of 20 or less House members (not even all “Freedom Caucus” members were sincere at the beginning) lets get real leadership.
But the real leadership should start now with a rebellion against Boehner’s current control to force Democrats to support him as he shoves his evil doings on us this month like raising the debt ceiling and so on.
Bullshit.
If he lit it ... he get’s it all.
And I'm still waiting for Trump to criticize Mitch McConnell.
The Congressionsl GOPe types seem to be blaming Cruz.
The arrogant entrenched corrupt wishful thinking driven by endless attempts to discredit Trump at every turn, had him written off months ago. They all failed yet again.
Now the DC rats are running in circles attempting to hoard scraps of food to get them through the coming political perfect storm.
Someone get the popcorn, this show is going to be fun to watch.
Donald welcome to the party, the tea party. Ted Cruz has been leading this for a bit longer than you were a “conservative”, but if the Donald wants the credit so be it as long as the traitors and double agents are removed. I prefer truth to popularity contests - I voting Cruz.
