No US decision yet on Syria no-fly zone

WASHINGTON (AFP) -

Obama administration officials on Wednesday said the longstanding issue of a no-fly zone in war-torn Syria has been discussed but no decision made.

Washington's NATO ally Turkey, which has more than 1.8 million Syrian refugees on its soil, has argued for months in favor of a no-fly "safe zone" in northern Syria, where refugees could take shelter from the country's bloody civil conflict.

Spokesmen for the State Department and the White House fielded reporters' questions about a CNN report Tuesday that said Secretary John Kerry had asked his staff "to further develop the idea."

CNN said Kerry also raised the issue at a National Security Council meeting last week.

The possibility of a no-fly zone in Syria -- where a US-led coalition is striking at Islamic State jihadists -- has come up intermittently since 2012, but never has been embraced by the administration of President Barack Obama.

It's just difficult to comprehend how we ended up with so many stupid people in the National Security apparatus.

What motivates these people? What do they want?

Hillary said she was for a no fly zone.

The problem is: Putin can say, “Stuff it” and do what he wants. The U.S. isn’t going to get into a shooting war with Russia.

So why lose face saying there’s a no fly zone when Obama doesn’t have the balls to enforce it?

Leading from behind. How’s that working out for ya, Zero?

what happened is normal Americans knuckled under and let dipshit Leftists punks and voter fraud artists corrupt and steal the 2008 and 2012 national elections , This included the almost complete disenfranchisement of the entire U.S. military vote .
The only way out of this is to annul the results of both 2008 and 2012 and institute a temporary national military counsel leadership ,for 4-5 years , with an appointed civilian administration for domestic and some economics affairs .

You really don’t need an answer to your question.

This is not an instance where the admin is “making decisions”...they are reacting to someone else making the decisions. It barely qualifies as “leading from behind”.

Disgusting. The Turkeys want a no fly zone where civilians can be safe. This is actually a zone where rebel groups funded by the CIA can be protected from Syrian air attack.

No UN, no Congress. No declaration of war, nothing. They don’t even pretend to follow the rules anymore.

"You really don’t need an answer to your question."

But surely the war hero Kerry realizes the US would have to shoot down a dozen Russian aircraft...and be prepared for Russia to strike back on ground more favorable to them...to even come close to a no-fly zone over Syria.

“and institute a temporary national military counsel leadership ,for 4-5 years ,”

You have to be kidding. Living under the military would even be worse than Obama. The Generals love the childlike life of the orderly military base. They love top down and full obedience. On a good day military leadership is horrible.
And our military leaders have embraced homos, trannys, child rapers, pork, fraud, domestic spying, etc.

No thanks.

Why would they even be considering a no fly zone???? Stupid doesn't say enough......

Russia has 'air superiority' over western and southern Syria on purpose which was to quell Erdogan's desire for a no-fly zone over northern Syria.....Russia's coing into Syria totally squashed all of Erdogans plans, and not just for Syria either... ......Endogan wants Assad out worse than the US and Putin knows it. Any ideas at all that Putin and Erdogan get along are a fairy tale....Putin has about as much regard for Erdogan as he does for Obama....

No love lost here!

It's Putin once again grinning...

Yes, and our Congress is SUPPOSED to keep a POTUS like this in check.

The objective is pie in the sky that will get a LOT of good men killed (Americans and Russians) and the "process" is as unlawful as any action in US History.

Republican are not just complicit, they are co-conspirators.

Fixed it.

I hope I’m misunderstanding, but are you suggesting military coup w/ civilian appointees for certain functions? If so, what universe is that a good idea in?

"Constantinople"

I think that's the funniest caption I've ever seen on FR.

General Dempsey, General Petraeus, Admiral Mullen, General Hayden from the NSA. They or others of their ilk would be the junta. I just don’t see our military as something that should govern.

Oh forgot one other thing....Terrorist Groups supposedly fighting Assad’s regime were bought and paid for as a Turkish air cover for their military and logistical operations in border regions against the Kurds.

There was an article posted today reporting on violence against Armenian Orthodox Christians in Ankara, with political supporters of Erogdan leading the charge.

Let's hope it can settle down before Vlad the Crusader has to intervene to protect Christianity:)

Sounds almost out of the book Starship Troopers. We’ve been marginalized by the leftists, we’ve been marginalized by “conservatives”, we’ve been marginalized by little twit college punks, and we’ve been marginalized by big-business groups who are disinterested in veterans.

I just heard on the news about Obama’s new no fly policy. If US planes get within 20 miles of Russian or Syrian troops or planes, they are supposed to retreat.

No fooling. That’s what the top of the hour news said.

Not even close...sorry dfwgator.....but Putin is out for Putin ....Christianity is simply the flower he wears in his hair....He's still a bad guy....but better than ISIS and most of the Muslim leadership he chooses to do business with. That will change one day if he persists too far......and he's a power hungry man .....like Trump you can't hit at him for long before he'll strike back.

I think Putin's been onto Erdogan for more than awhile...knew he was after his own "Caliphate"...which meant outing Assad.....Erdogan's plan was to be first on the plate if Syria fell.... That's why he's been harboring so many Syrians....it sure is't cause he gives a crap for Syrians...he considers most of them as Apostates to Islam.

Everyone remembers what a farce the NATO-led no-fly zone in Libya in 2011 was: They were actively bombing tanks and whatnot, and taking sides in that country's internal civil war.

No one is going to fall for that line again.
