I know it was in Texas and we take care of ourselves here, but didn’t Hurricane Ike happen in 2008?
I don’t recall any concern, but there were plenty of folks displaced by 5-8 feet of flood water in their homes and power was out for nearly 2 weeks.
I can never forget the smell of the houses we helped clear out which had been deluged not only by the Gulf floodwaters but also the sewage which crept up and out in its wake. Disgusting.
I guess Hurricane Ike could be named Hurricane Servpro because it was like it never happened.

Ok. Tropical Storm when made landfall. Some parts witnessed hurricane force wind gusts after landfall. That does not make it a hurricane. It was a mess, yes. It was large. yes. But it was not a hurricane, nor was it anywhere near the cataclysmic event it was purported to be. It was overhyped in a time of extreme political scrutiny and the desperate need for an event to support bs global warming rhetoric and made for good media fodder in an area where they think the world revolves around. Remeber after the 2004 and 2005 seasons we were supposed to have more frequent and more severe hurricanes, etc., the new normal. 10 years hence we haven’t even come close to a landfall hurricane in the Atlantic.

Sandy was not a hurricane when it hit land in NJ. It wasn't even a tropical storm. The National Hurricane Center classified Sandy as a post tropical storm and did not even issue any warnings for the storm since it was no longer tropical. The local NWS issued high wind warnings, and the most Sandy did wind wise was some gusts in the 60s and 70s mph range.

Sandy's damage was caused by water...the storm surge. The storm was so big in size, it pushed up huge amounts of water on the beach and near the water.

Call it whatever you want, but Sandy was not a hurricane when it hit land.

Actually, it did not. There were no sustained winds, only gusts. Check out the NHC website, they explain it all there.

There has not been a MAJOR hurricane to hit in 10 years. A major hurricane is defined as those with winds of 115 mph or more, which is a cat 3 or higher storm.

Yes, Ike was 2008 but by the time it made landfall in TX, it was only category 2, which doesn't count as a major hurricane.
