House Oversight Chairman Jason Chaffetz is planning to run for House speaker, taking on Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy in what appears to be a long-shot bid to lead House Republicans, according to multiple sources.
The Utah Republican, first elected to Congress in 2008, is launching a campaign less than a week before the Oct. 8 leadership elections for the House GOP Conference. The date for a floor vote to pick the next speaker has not been set yet.
McCarthy (R-Calif.) is the overwhelming favorite to win, and it’s unclear how many votes Chaffetz can garner.
Chaffetz's office would not comment.

Chaffetz would be a far better choice than McCarthy if, for no other reason, than he is still young enough to learn. Plus he has one of the most conservative constituencies in the country to keep him in check.

I’m from Utah and I would say yes, I think he would be good as Speaker...better than Mia Love.....
My guess? Chaffetz is running to split the anti-McCarthy vote.
He’s one of those who was pretty good to start out, then got Potomac Fever.

But another way of looking at that event is that it showed Chaffetz CAN back down to conservatives. Which is more than Boehner or McCarthy ever did.
Still think McCarthy will get it, but it’s good to see more names come out.
Chaffetz is useless. Webster talks a good game but has a mediocre voting record. McCarthy is Boehner without the suntan in a bottle and with less of an alcohol problem but the same adultery problem. What is it with guys like Gingrich, Hastert, Boehner and McCarthy that they refuse to keep it in their knickers and contain their amorous behavior within the boundaries of their own marriages. They are demonstrated moral midgets and then we wonder when they sell us out on public policy and violate their political promises (while faithfully and slavishly serving the crony capitalist crowd).

I would love to know what he said because on 9/30 my guy was on the radio saying he was voting for McCarthy.
then the next day I called saying "NO McCarthy" and the DC aide said that he was asking for phone logs to record what the people wanted because he was re-thinking the McCarthy vote.
I said Daniel Webster. But I'm willing to call back (again and again) if there is someone better.
