My prayers are with you regarding your nephew, as you say, knowing the likely cause of his demise helps somewhat in that you don’t have to ponder the “what ifs”, it doesn’t at all minimize the pain but it hopefully allows you and your family to find some peace about it.
I know this is a sad story but this comment made me lol. Heaven help me.

One later 1980s classic TV episode was ‘baby’ Mark getting stuck in the fireplace chimney on The Hogans (Valerie’s Family).
It was hilarious.
The chimney was located behind a large piece of furniture, “so there was no reason to look in the fireplace,”
Well, it’s no wonder he couldn’t get out.

I’ve also seen several—and in every case it was a person who was breaking into a location for burglary.
This is so sad. Small comfort that the family now has closure, but not a happy ending.

I slept on the couch beside the front door every weekend night when my oldest was in high school.
There was no way he could enter the house without a brief inspection or get away with coming in beyond curfew.
