Part of that effort must be a continued rejection by Muslims of those who distort Islam to preach intolerance and promote violence.

There hasn't been an Islamic Reformation, Barry. Or an Islamic Enlightenment. Its teachings are stuck in about 600 AD, and no amount of your wishful thinking is going to change that. The secular Muslims that you meet at your Georgetown cocktail parties are the ones who aren't true Muslims.

I do not know how you can separate terrorism from Islam.
