Israeli, Russian Armies to Form Joint Committee on Syria Actions

Committee will coordinate naval and aerial activities, military chiefs agree in Moscow meeting.

The Israeli and Russian militaries will form a joint committee to coordinate their activities in Syria, Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gadi Eisenkot and his Russian counterpart Valery Gerasimov agreed in a meeting in Moscow on Monday evening.

The committee, which will be headed by the countries' deputy chiefs of staff, would coordinate both naval and aerial activities, as well as electro-magnetic activities, to avoid interference in electronic warfare, a senior Israeli officer told reporters.

"There's aerial activities to the north of the country that may or may not overlap with the Russians' activities there," the officer said.

If I were Bibi I’d trust Putin more than Obama anyway.

This is surreal. After the Soviet intervention (with British concurrenc) in Iran in WW II, have Russian forces ever entered direct combat in the Middle East?

The staggering failue of Obama's Middle Eastern policy is apparent to anyone who dares to look.

I am even reading that the Europeans are essentially now debating endorsing the Russian policy goal--a negotiated peace that includes the Ba'ath Party.

Think Iran isn’t smiling broadly right about now?

There goes the Israeli option to preventing Iran from getting the bomb.

Net and Putin met a couple days ago. It’s called “The Art of the Deal”.

Iran won’t get the bomb because Russia won’t let them now that Russia is in the Middle East?

Florina said during the debate she would not even meet with Putin - with negotiating tactics like that no wonder she ruined her companies.

Afghanistan is central Asia.

The last time the Russians tried to go south the Europeans sided with the Muslim Turks to stop them at the Crimean War. What a shame. If Russia went South and the Brits were not freaked out they would be cut off from India, Islam would be finished in the middle east and it would be filled with Christians.

Thanks a lot France and England.

Iran maybe worrying. What if Syria ditches Iran in favor of Russia? Detente with Israel? Why should Syria fight now for the Sunni Palestinians who sided with the jihadists? The Palestinians the Syrian Ba’athists supported were the secular socialist kins like themselves.

Technically Afghanistan is part of Asia.

I can’t think of any time Russia put troops into the Middle-East before this.

I’m sure they aren’t timid about doing it though.

I’m also curious why Israel would defend the government of Assad, considering Assad allows Hezbollah to arm with supplies coming through Syria.

Probably figures any situation can get worse.

I wonder.

I’m not convinced Russia wants to be there long term.

It can’t bomb with Russian forces there to interdict.

Mine were centering around a new relationship between Israel and Russia, but you took it farther.
