HAVANA — The latest developments in Pope Francis' visit to Cuba and the United States. All times local:
6:30 p.m.
Pope Francis has spoken off-the-cuff at length for the first time during his trip to Cuba, breaking from prepared remarks to deliver a sermon that focuses extensively on the importance of poverty to the Roman Catholic Church.
He also warns of the dangers of falling prey to the temptations of wealth.
In Francis's word: "Our dear mother church is poor. God wants it poor, as he wanted our Holy Mother Mary to be poor."

I guess that’s Popespeak for “don’t ask me for money”. I know churches in north Florida that send a missionary down there 4 times a year with four suitcases (the max permitted) full of things like faucets for sinks and toothpaste. The people take that stuff like it’s gold.

Well, since Castro has reduced the formerly prosperous Cuba to poverty - as Chavez reduced the food producing Venezuela to being a food importer - I guess Pope Marxist I might want to take another look at this.

Been poor, been comfortable. Comfortable affords you the opportunity to be charitable to the poor and generate some jobs so others can be comfortable. Vows of poverty help no one.

Exactly! It hardly looked poor to me. Even the little Catholic Church where I grew up was the nicest building in town. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not bashing Catholicism. But it is a rich church overall.
How about loving God and using money as a tool.
