WINTER HAVEN (FOX 13) - Three men, all strangers, couldn't drive by a Polk County sheriff's deputy in need of help Sunday morning.

“Cooper didn’t let a torn ACL stop him from running to help.
“I wasn’t thinking about my safety. I was thinking about helping him. The boy was all over him straddling him beating him, he snatched his radio and took it,” continued Cooper.
Cooper said Johnson continued reaching for the deputy’s gun belt. He eventually got Johnson off the deputy and he ran off...
“Cooper wasn’t the only one who stopped.
“I just stopped my truck in the middle of the road,” said Antonio Velazquez.
Velazquez, Cooper, and a third good Samaritan rushed to stop Johnson and help Deputy Walsh.”

The first guy on the scene was black, with a torn ACL no less! I admit sometimes we get swept up in the evil that is #blacklivesmatter and overlook that most blacks are decent, upstanding citizens who do the right thing (as are ALL citizens in the USA of all colors and tendencies).
I do note the perp was black and am willing to bet he was motivated by #blm (unproved as of this moment).

One of my best friends had to jump out of his car and help an officer subdue two meth heads once. He just drew his gun and ran up and put gun to the big one’s head and told him to get on the ground or he was going to blow his head off. The cop was beyond relieved.
I did. It happened 3 or 4 weeks ago.
In Plant City we have good race relations. And for the most part, so does Lakeland, Mulberry, and Bartow. Blacks and Whites got to know each other from working together at the phosphate mines, and in the fields, among other places. This was a long time ago.
yes, the perp was black but he was also a criminal having been arrested seven times in the past.
I don’t know whether the black lives matter mantra has anything to do with this or not but, if our news stories keep promoting this kind of untrue allegations of police officers and making it look like black criminals, and thugs are victims then this will happen more and more.
The guy that stepped in to help took a big chance, he sounded like a really nice guy. Congrats and thanks for the help. He has probably made a friend for life with the cop he saved.

The word “ambush” means something. Kudos to those that helped, but the Deputy WAS NOT ambushed.
