Abolishing federal things. Nice.
In a crowded presidential field where the lions share of attention remains focused on the bombastic Donald Trump, candidates need to swing for the fences if they hope to earn much needed attention. Wisconsin governor Scott Walker made such a move Monday, announcing his intention to eliminate unions for federal employees and abolish the National Labor Relations Board. From the Associated Press:
Union leaders are livid. Tony Reardon, president of the National Treasury Employees Union that represents 150,000 federal workers, said Walker is declaring a war on middle-class workers. And Democratic presidential contender Hillary Rodham Clinton accused him of bullying union members.
What about those of us in the middle class who dont hold comfy federal jobs? You know, the ones who have to pay the taxes which make those jobs possible? Do our voices count?
Whos bullying who in the ongoing labor debate? Whether the issue is card check or the NLRB extorting Boeing and other companies who attempt to flee to right-to-work states, the union-industrial complex can be found doing the bullying more often than not.
Unfortunately, Republican candidates arent presenting a united front on this issue. The report continues:
One of Walkers Republican rivals challenged the plan, too, saying it is the wrong message for the GOP to send to unionized workers. Instead of treating all union members like they are the enemy, said former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, its time we invite them to give some of us in our party a try.
Yeah, because thats going to happen. Those union workers inclined to support Republicans, few though they may be, will do so regardless of Walkers plan. They already get it. Those who dont, wont. At least Walker is taking a stand.
Unions help keep working families strong. Scott Walkers attacks on unions and workers rights arent leadershiptheyre bullying, Clinton wrote.
The tweet was signed with her initial, indicating she personally authored the tweet.
A few hours later, Walker responded and hit back hard.
@HillaryClinton Actually, were protecting the American worker from being forced to support candidates like you, [SW]
Hillary Accused Scott Walker of Bullying. A Few Hours Later, He Hit Back With a Blistering Comment
"The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has become a lightning rod for controversy under President Obama, with its aggressive actions fueling sustained warfare between business and labor."
Oh, that was a good response by Walker.
He also needs to work in the fact that unions are only applicable in an adversarial relationship between employee and employer.
In the case of govt employees, the employer and employee are negotiating against the taxpayer, who isn’t represented in the negotiation.
Idiot.
"In one of his first clashes with the new Republican-dominated Congress over labor policy, President Obama vetoed a GOP-backed resolution Tuesday that would halt a National Labor Relations Board rule making it easier for workers to hold so-called ambush union-organizing elections.
It was Mr. Obamas second veto since Republicans took control of the Senate in January, following his rejection in February of a measure that would have expedited the construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline...."
Sept 2, 2015: NLRB and Small Business: Tensions Heightened Under Obama "The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has pushed for rules that critics argue have favored unions and targeted the small business community. The board's latest controversial decision came last week, in a ruling that makes employers liable for labor violations committed by business partners and contractors.
The Hill reported five other NLRB rulings that were decided during President Obama's tenure that were against the best interest of small business. Theres perhaps no labor board that has done more for organized labor than this one has, Michael Lotito, an employment and labor attorney, told the The Hill. The labor board has really put the wind back in the sails of unions, said Beth Milito, NFIB Senior Legal Counsel, according to The Hill....."
Sept 14, 2015: TOTAL VICTORY - Scott Walker wants to destroy whats left of Americas unions
..... On Monday, the Wisconsin governor released his plan to strangle unions, titled My Plan to Give Power to the People, Not the Union Bosses.
....Under President Obama, the NLRB has been more aggressive for labor than the business-friendly boards of previous administrations. In August, for example, it made it easier for unions to negotiate on behalf of workers at companies that rely on contractors and franchisees. If fast-food workers at McDonalds or software testers at Microsoft want to unionize, employers have to come to the table to negotiate. For Walker, this decision is evidence that the NLRB is now a one-sided advocate for big labor special interests. As such, it needs to go.........
Unions are people with left wing democrat communists who hate America as much as any illegal immigrant even though they live better that hard working taxpayers who support them all. Only the conservatives are stanking strong on America being great once again even as the left and the rinos engineer the downfall of America in D.C., the hell hole of America.
And they’re the money and muscle behind the Democrat Machine.
Workers should NOT be forced to pay “dues” to power the Left.
My hope is that this issue will become part of the National Debate.
One sentence and you summed up the problem.
And, if I may add, they function as a giant money laundering scheme for the rat party.
The rats seem to have that as their primary income - money laundering from the taxpayers’ pockets.
Scott Walker: Day One Patient Freedom Plan
This is wonk war stuff
Walker is probably showing his true priorities here to declare a blanket war on unions, but in SHTF times this is an incredible waste of campaign time
Apparently he has no passion for international affairs, military leadership, economic catastrophe, open borders, and a dozen other issues that give middle class Americans sleepless nights
Trump is going to point out his experience in working with unions to get things done. This is all most Americans care about.
And no I lost the letter when moving.
I appreciate the link-
Walker has taken a strong stand on the Middle East, the Iran “deal,” our military engagement, the economy, national security, illegal immigration (and legal immigration), Obamacare and much more.
But that was a nice try.
Yes yes yes
The former can be done by an Executive Order to undue JFK's Executive Order ( seriously, he wasn't that good as a POTUS ) and the later, I do not know how a POTUS can shut it down. Enlightened Freeper's please inform us how that can be done or is Congress Involved....
I agree that Unions should be prohibited from donating to politicians and political parties. I agree that there should be a national right to work law.
Having said that, I haven’t found any federal unions that are compulsory. Not all federal agencies operate on taxpayer funds. For instance, the Postal Service, which has at least four unions, is not on budget at all but operates on its own revenue.
Teachers unions should be abolished because they protect incompetent teachers and damage the educational system. The Dept. of Education should be dismantled.
Beyond that, a national Right to Work law may be all that is needed.
That's the "stuff" that had 100,000 protesters from across the country inside and outside the WI state capital for months - and he finished what he started.
You must remember that a governor is an executive, a governor actually does things. Trump can say all that he wants but he doesn't have the experience and success in areas that we need our next president to have (and one who has shown that he CAN get the job done).
