Try a backuped SSD or 7. They B fast when they work. They have a very small form factor and heat output allowing a dense package as an upgrade.

Just out of curiosity, how much disk space does this site use? Is it in the hundreds of terabytes, or more?

No way—it’s an all-text site. The storage requirements should be minimal.
I spend a lot of time on FR, (and accordingly I contribute to it). But sometimes you just need to care about something else besides politics. I tend to tune out Iran stuff, for the simple reason that you’d go catatonic if you worried about it.Since FR is a computer generated venue, I can safely say that home computers are an interesting topic for most all of us. Indeed, that is why it generates so much heat. But I have a hard time thinking that disk space is a real issue; Moore’s Law has been happening on that as well as CPU and RAM chips. I used to worry about running out of disk and having to purge off files; now I just figure that I’m really only renting - just pony up $100 and get a new disk with double or quadruple the space you have now, and FReep on. Sure, on FR itself, it’ll be more than $100, but still . . .

IF you use FR you should contribute a little something for the up keep monthly. I don't care if it's just $5 for those on fixed incomes. Every dollar helps keep FR up and running.

And for those saying use smaller fonts. There are a lot of eyesight challenged people on FR that can’t read it if you go below 12 Pica. There is NO NEED to use bigger Pica.

You're thinking too small, 5-1/4" or 8", bigger for more storage.
And you gotta back that stuff up, unless your name is Clinton. 
Well, you’d need more than one drive, as one hopes that FR is using RAID...and $99 sounds like a consumer drive.
Storage is cheap nowadays. If I knew how many posts have been made on FR since inception I could calculate a rough estimate of total storage requirements.
