How Ted Cruz is running the Republican table
WashTimes ^ | 9/9/15 | Monica Crowley

In the spring of 2011, I heard about a dazzling young conservative, the former solicitor general of Texas, who was running for a soon-to-be-open U.S. Senate seat. Brilliant and charismatic, he was a Princeton and Harvard Law graduate who seemed to relish rubbing that pedigree in the faces of Ivy League liberals who couldn’t fathom why he wasn’t “one of them.” But Ted Cruz would never be “one of them,” and that gave him the makings of a conservative superstar.

So I invited this political unknown with negligible poll numbers to appear as a guest on my national radio show. One of the first — and most dynamic — candidates to emerge from the then-nascent Tea Party movement, Mr. Cruz spiritedly championed limited government, fiscal responsibility and economic freedom. When I asked if we could trust him to stay true to those principles, he replied unequivocally, “I give you my word. I will fight with everything I have for them and for this great country.”

And he did. He waged so many lonely battles against President Obama, the left, the media and many in his own party — over Obamacare, the debt ceiling, taxes, Mr. Obama’s executive orders, gutting of the military and global retrenchment — that I began tweeting, “Must Ted Cruz do everything?”

He was the original outsider.

That earned him the enmity of those who resented how bad his leadership made them look. But he wasn’t sent to Washington to be a party apparatchik, and he’s remained one of the very few who has staunchly resisted that town’s seductive call to sell out.

Now running for the GOP nomination, he is playing the long game very skillfully. Having already raised substantial money, Mr. Cruz has made the strategically smart decision to establish (snip)

"Mr. Cruz may be in a race with 16 other candidates, but as usual, he stands a world apart. Proud of the battle scars he’s earned trying to restore America, he charges ahead with Churchillian defiance. And like Churchill, Mr. Cruz runs the political table strategically, with precision — and doesn’t believe in surrender."

I count myself in the pool of proud supporters, both financially and otherwise. Go Trump Go and Ted can school the Trumpster at the same time. It’s symbiotic. It could be landsliditic as well.

Why not, he’s only got about six times the support out there. That right there would cause me to drop out and support Cruz. /s

Heard today that Trump made a nasty remark about Carly Fiorinas face. Does anyone really want him in the White House?

And, you like others, are repeating rumors that we do not know are true. This was written in Rolling Stone, which has been known to fabricate stories. SO, whether you support Trump or not - at least have the decency to check out any story - and that includes your candidate - before you accept things at face value. If this was written about Cruz, you sure would want the truth before jumping to conclusions.

Yeah, I heard about Trump’s remark. I wish he would be more careful and thoughtful of his words/remarks.

Trumpoonery-Buffoonery will prove no match to the solid credentials of Cruz as a true conservative who can and will beat any Democratic nominee. He has class.

I predict that Donald Trump will eventually endorse Ted Cruz.

I contend that that is purely wishful thinking. There is absolutely nothing in Trump's past or psychological makeup as we know it to support that hypothesis. If you beg to differ, please post a link. Thanks.

Okay. Well, I don’t follow your logic. Trump right now has most primaries pretty much in the bag according to the polls. I don’t see something in the wind that portends to change that.

Remember, many folks have predicted Trump wasn’t serious, wouldn’t file his papers, and wasn’t in this for the long haul.

They predicted over and over again his numbers would now fall because of some revelation. And even having predicted it loudly in the press, it just didn’t happen.

The guy is pulling across demographic lines in almost every category.

What causes you to make still one more prediction along these lines? You don’t have to answer, because you don’t need a reason. If that’s your thought, you should express it if you like.

I just don’t see anything that would indicate you’re even close to being proved right at this point.

Take care.
