Jindal to Trump: 'Can't make America great again by throwing Christians in jail'
Washington Examiner ^ | 9/4/15 | Ryan Lovelace

Posted on 09/04/2015 7:49:04 PM PDT by markomalley

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal hit Donald Trump on the front-running presidential candidate's response to the ongoing debate about the jailing of the Kentucky clerk who refused marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

Trump had discussed the punishment Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis faced for disobeying the law on MSNBC.

"I hate to see her put in jail," Trump told MSNBC. "[But] the Supreme Court has ruled. That's the law of the land."

Sensing an opportunity on the campaign trail, Jindal rebuked The Donald in a series of tweets, exclaiming, "You can't make America great again by throwing Christians in jail."

"I understand asking forgiveness from God and respecting communion is a personal decision," the governor tweeted. "But even really rich New Yorkers should oppose jailing Christians for their religious beliefs."

Jindal followed up his tweets with a fundraising pitch in an email titled, "Trump turns his back on Christians."

"Religious liberty is one of the founding principles of our nation," Jindal wrote. "I will never abandon my commitment to protect our freedom so that I can get praise from the liberal media — or suck up to Donald Trump."

Trump receives the support of more than 27 percent of GOP voters surveyed, according to RealClearPolitics' average of national polls. Jindal receives 0.2 percent support in the same average.

Jindal has often refrained from talking about Trump on the campaign trail. Instead, he has repeatedly sought to challenge Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker about the best way to repeal and replace Obamacare.

When the Washington Examiner asked Jindal earlier this summer about Trump's laudatory comments about single payer healthcare, Jindal opted for an answer about what differentiated him from Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. With the next Republican presidential debate fewer than two weeks away, Jindal is looking for every opportunity to increase his visibility.

Bobby. Trump didn’t throw her in jail. Honest.

How about focusing on the people who did?

Sound like a plan?

Seemed like The Donald joined Linda Gramnesty, Carly, and Jeb in approving of the act. Jindal is pointing this out.

Of course, that doesn't matter too much.

I’m enjoying the Trump show and enjoy his taking it to the GOP-e. (They richly deserve it.) However, I will not be voting for Trump in the primaries. As a social conservative, I’m still looking at Cruz, Santorum, and Jindal. (I would be looking at Huckabee, but he carries too much extraneous baggage.) Bobby makes a good point.

It doesn’t do any good for us to have illegals thrown out of the country if we are going to be thrown in jail at the same time.

Jindal needs to attack the ones that put her in jail, not Trump. Not smart.

Mr. Trump did not do this.

It was started by Bishop Willard Romney (GOP, you idiots)
who imposed gay marriage, as he did ObamaCARE/RomneyCARE.

So Trump actually thinks that whatever five a-holes on the Supreme Court say magically becomes “The Law of the Land”?

I am very disappointed. Cruz has nailed this issue. Maybe next time the Donald pals around with Ted he can pick up some pointers on what the word “law”actually means.

Mark, if him saying he doesn’t want to see her put in jail is what you want to hang your hat on, go ahead.

With the SCOTUS decision, what did you expect to see?

I knew exactly where she was going to wind up. You didn’t?

Good grief you joyous folks are grasping at straws.

Go ahead and say it. “He’s really jumped the shark now.”

LMAO

When will everyone learn..it’s not what people say, it’s what they do. I want a doer in the White House. I don’t want someone who just talks, I want someone who has a record of success. A record of knowing how to negotiate deals, a record of putting people to work. A record of SUCCESS. I want that and I want it now. There’s only one person who has that record. And that is Donald Trump. Trump at the helm and Cruz as an ACTIVE Vice President and I think we may, and I repeat, MAY be able to stop this downward spiral.

Trump hasn’t even tweeted anything about the case.

So, let’s see. He has time to bash Megyn Kelly’s show. He doesn’t have time for political correctness. And he doesn’t have time to defend religious liberty. He did get an update on his poll numbers tweeted today.

Desperation...

He said he doesn’t want to see her in jail.

On what planet does that mean he likes what’s happening to her?

You folks have mental problems.

Trump is right. Davis is trying to have her cake and eat it too. As Trump said, others in her department volunteered to handle the marriage certificates. She would not allow it. That is not her decision. Jindal should slam Justice Kennedy and the State of Kentucky, not Trump.

She is also a big time Democrat and voted for the very people that have made her a criminal, she says she stands for religion, yet she voted for gay marriage. Is she an asinine hypocrite or just plain stupid or a democrat plant trying to get the election turned away from immigration and jobs, and about gays again?
