California students outperformed Texans, on average, by 20 points in math and 25 points in reading, the College Board reported.
Asian students are considered minority students in California

Think Common Core might be a factor?

How many illegal students pulling down the averages?

You are on the right path. More accurate conclusions can be drawn once cross tabs are available.

But on the good news front, America’s kids are still significantly ahead of Swaziland (in language, anyway).
The only hope I have is that the US is a larger country than it was 40 years ago, and the inequality between the smart and dumb kids is mirroring income inequality (which, if you think about it, is not all that surprising). So, in short, hopefully, the smart are getting smarter and more numerous.

How many illegal students pulling down the averages? That was my question? In many parts of south Texas there are students that barely speak english, if at all. No wonder they can't score well.

Dumbed-down from years of Rap music.

It would be interesting to see the distribution. Is it bi-modal?
Averages are only the start in data forensics.

I live on the Texas border and the Low English Proficiency students (LEPers) are killing us on the tests.
The tests are all in English. And there’s no consequences for failing the tests. Their attitudes are terrible and they have no plan for assimilation. It is Hell.
