You’re a fraud faire. In many of the morning threads that you start, you claim that you’re for a wall, but then you blatantly and ignorantly post in the same threads that building a wall is racist. Then frequently, you resort to posting from scripture in an effort qualify yourself. Then, to boot, you’re often condescending and sarcastic to the very posters who you’ve pinged to your threads. Why can’t you simply be polite and friendly when posting to others? I sometimes post roughly but not to other members here and I do use ....’s if needed. I believe you’re unstable my friend faire. No one trusts your motives here, at least I sure don’t.
That's the really bad news!
I agree with you that WSJ position leans libertarian. But pre-HR4437 can you name a single prominent “conservative” who opposed the WSJ position ... except Pat Buchanan?
Hannity used to have Pat on frequently and would ridicule Buchanan as the only nativist conservative. Hannity himself was 100% WSJ on immigration until about 2007.
I remember the 2002 election in IL. In June 2001 to TAPROOT the most conservative poliician in IL told the most conservative group in IL that he welcomed everyone to the US. He boasted about how he could get the Muslim vote in his SW Chicago area because they were hard core pro-life, just like he was. I said the same about Muslims in the Mosque 1/2 mi from my house.
2 months later he had to tone down the Muslim rhetoric but continued to praise ALL Mexicans (they were good Catholics like he was). Jim Oberweis, running for the other statewide seat took a very libertarian position. They both lost due to the weirdness of IL GOP. The local 2A activist who later became a founding leader of the Minutemen had no problem with the pro-illegal positions of the hard right conservatives who were running against the crooked establishment.
Two years later Oberweis flip-flopped to hard anti-immigrant with a famous TV ad of illegals in Soldier Field. the now leader of the minutemen delivered her area for Obie. But she was the only one. Nobody else in the entire state could deliver.
Later Obie ran locally for congress. In my extremely conservative area none of the evangelicals would support him. None of the libertarian Republicans would support him, even though he is quite libertarian on most issues.
The same is true nation-wide. UT has a Senate race. The conservative challenger was well ahead of the corrupt incumbent running as a libertarian Republican. Against advice of his campaign manager, he went high profile anti-illegal in the last weeks of the campaign and his poll numbers and election results went down steeply with those polled attributing it to his anti-illegal position.
It took UT another 6 years to get rid of the RINO and find a Mike Lee.
Same in AZ. Conservative Republicans did not like JD Hayworth on immigration and saw McCain as the lesser of 2 evils.
Of course we could go back to the 50s and 60s and 70s and 80s and 90s when conservatives were very “open borders”. I remember debating “braceros” in high school in the 50s after listening to conservatives on the radio and reading anti-communist booklets. It was the 3 commie teachers in my high school who were Malthusian anti-immigrant. It was us anti-communists who welcomed those escaping religious persecution in Mexico and political persecution in eastern Europe and N Vietnam. We conservative high school students had no patience for bureaucratic paperwork that held up churches and World Vision trying to bring in people with no papers.
It would a shame if the rally/riot got out of control and destroyed the offices of the neo-Nazi Dallas Morning News.
Immigration has always been an issue. I have followed it closely since high school and braceros in the ‘50s as I worked beside braceros and illegals in the farms of Green River Valley, WA.
But except for Pat Buchanan it was never in the top 10 issues. Except for the Amnesty debate at the end of Reagan’s term, it was never in the top 20. I’d go door to door in Chicago area asking people what their top issues were. Immigration was never mentioned until 2003, neither by immigrants nor by native born.
Tancredo and HR4437 proposed to turn a minor paperwork violation equivalent to a parking ticket into a major felony. They failed and it is still on the level of a parking ticket. Illegals are less illegal than I am. I break speeding laws, which are much more serious than entering the US without playing mother-may-I with a bureaucrat.
But check it out. Talk Radio Host Pulido and his first demonstration Chicago was what put the issue and the backlash, and the backlash to the backlash, on the political map.
A week before Pulido started his on air campaign I was there on Galena St, Aurora IL when Pulido told about 50 Hispanic small businessmen his plans and strategy. He was blatant that he couldn’t care less about politics. He was doing it to demonstrate his power and influence in the Hispanic community and that is why the Hispanic businessmen should advertise on his radio program and pay higher ad rates for doing so...because he reached their market...which was the truth and he so aptly demonstrated.
It should be noted that I am no stranger to organizing around the illegals issue. Forty years earlier was the last time illegals and their supporters had been organized so effectively. That was when non-Allinsky community organizer Oscar Lopez organized them to demand the same privilege that Polish and Eastern European immigrants had...namely the RIGHT TO PAY BRIBES TO GET Social Security cards, drivers licenses, voter cards from the Rostenskowski Democrat machine the same way the European illegals could.
Carlos Quintanilla, of course, is a direct organizer descendant of Oscar Lopez. Oscar is the admired organizer who would not sell out when everyone else sold their souls to Bill Clinton for a mess of pottage that turned out to be rotten pottage.
Latinos = illegal aliens (aka invaders).
I'm behind enemy lines, OK bob? Where the invasion was causing big league news, issues and outrage long before Tancredo or anything that happened in Illinois or Chicago. And it was no where near the "farms of Green River Valley, WA".
Lots of us warned the rest what was coming long before Tancredo did anything. Few listened. Most in other states felt or thought tens of millions pouring in illegally into CA and the southwest U.S. was somehow cute or humorous. It changed and diverted history here before Tancredo ever served in the United States House of Representatives
OK Bob?
No worries....I’m right there with you, on the hoax theory. I’ve been saying that none of this refugee cr@p is *natural*. It’s all being orchestrated....there, and here. All according to plan. Watching the international reports on the *humanity* issue is over the top.
We’re quickly nearing the end of this road. No doubt they are here and organizing, combining forces...and organizing some more. The Organizer in Chief is renaming mountains as a distraction.
Mexicans are watching carefully Euorpes Invasion.....they already see you can gather the numbers and barge through any police resistance....we can expect this coming from Mexico after or before this election....
No doubt being instructed, as we type.
Disgrace...
I predict that the number showing up for Trump will double because of the attention given to the anti-Trump rally.....I also predict there will be some form of physical violence initiated by some of the more “avid” protesters...
