Md. Man Charged After Tweeting ‘Kill All the White People’

LA PLATA, Md. — Police in La Plata say a 20-year-old man has been charged after he tweeted about killing “all the white people” in the town. Charles Hollins was charged on Wednesday with making a threat of mass violence. He’s being held on $250,000 bond. Online court records do not list an attorney for him. According to police, the tweet read, “TONIGHT WE PURGE! KILL ALL THE WHITE PPL IN THE TOWN OF LA PLATA.” Police say it was posted on Wednesday afternoon. The account that posted the message appears to have been deleted. Hollins, who is black, was arrested on Wednesday evening in Waldorf. Police say extra officers were sent out on patrol in La Plata in response to the threat.

Americans are a bunch of wussies. Some guy "tweets" a hateful comment and everyone goes to pieces and the government has to swoop in and protect us from some idiot. We have given up our strength, lost our sense of humor and traded our freedom for the guise of safety. The "tweeter" probably doesn't even have a gun. I, for one, am not afraid of twitter, and I am not afraid of that guy. I still think the Constitution should protect expression, even expressions I don't agree with.--Comment posted by another to the original article. I agree with the poster of this comment and would add Louis Farrakhan says things far worse and is not arrested. This is ridiculous overreach and should not be tolerated. Whatever happened to the First Amendment? Something's not right about this. Stupid kid says something really idiotic and gets arrested? Soviet Union stuff.

You don’t have the right to terrorize people with threats of violence under the first amendment. If someone says they’re going to kill you and you believe them you have a right to defend yourself before they actually act to kill you.
