Over the last week, weve seen a disturbing trend of police officers being murdered on the job. Texas Sheriffs Deputy Darren Goforth was killed Friday, gunned down while pumping gas for no apparent reason other than the uniform on his back. And just yesterday, in my neighboring state of Illinois, police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz was assassinated by three men, who are still on the run.
This isnt the America I grew up in or that I want my children to grow up in. When the very people responsible for keeping us safe are targeted because they are law enforcement officials, we have a serious problem.
In the last six years under President Obama, weve seen a rise in anti-police rhetoric. Instead of hope and change, weve seen racial tensions worsen and a tendency to use law enforcement as a scapegoat. This kind of attitude has created a culture in which we all too often see demonstrations and chants where people describe police as pigs and call for them to be fried like bacon. This inflammatory and disgusting rhetoric has real consequences for the safety of officers who put their lives on the line for us and hampers their ability to serve the communities that need their help.
In Wisconsin we acted to protect both police officers and citizens through a first-in-the-nation law that requires an independent investigation when a suspect dies in police custody.
And I will continue to support efforts to ensure officers receive proper training at the local level to help make sure force is only used in appropriate circumstances.
But we must do more to protect those who protect us. Police officers across this country need to know that we have their back. As Ive done throughout my career, I will continue to have the backs of police officers, sheriffs deputies, and state troopers and treat them with the respect they deserve.
After years of division under President Obama, America needs a leader who will seek to unite all Americans. Instead of focusing on what divides us, we need to concentrate on what brings us together. No law enforcement officer should fear to do their job the way he or she was trained to do it, and no law-abiding citizen should fear for their safety from those sworn to protect us.
We need to change the tone in America from chants and rallies that fixate on racial division and instead follow the example of the families of the victims of the Charleston shooting, who showed us the best path forward is through unity. As president, thats what Im going to do to make us a united America once again.
"A Florida police department is outraged after an Arbys employee refused to serve one of their officers simply because the officer was a cop.
A Pembroke Pines police officer went through the drive-through of a local Arbys around 7 p.m. Tuesday evening, but when the officer pulled up, one employee refused service.
I dont have the exact quote, but something was said to the effect of We dont want to serve you because youre a police officer' Pembroke Pines Major and Public Information Officer Carlos Bermudez told The Daily Caller News Foundation.
A different employee took over and gave the officer the food, but the officer decided to go in and complain to the manager. The manager gave the officer a refund, but the chief still reached out to the corporate office to complain........."
Scott WAlker declares support for police; provides Wisconsin examples.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
This looks a thousand times more like an Obama problem than an Arby’s problem.
Witch hunts help nobody.
More on the Arby’s story [and it’s Obama’s fault and our problem].
“........Davenports grandfather believes the episode is being blown out of proportion. He said that he and his grandson, whom he raised, have respect for the police. He believes the whole thing is centered on a dumb joke gone awry.
Officers lives matter, he said. Everybodys life matters. Somebody made a joke and she just didnt take it the right way. She didnt think they were joking. She thought it was a serious matter. Now their job as an officer is very serious and I appreciate all that they do.
Kenny Davenport maintains that neither he nor anyone else disrespected Sergeant Martin but he sees little use in explaining himself.
Theres no point in talking, he said. Im 19. Shes an officer and Im colored.

Agreed. This is a store level Arby’s problem that should result, if not already, in the firing of the employee. This has nothing to do with the atmosphere Obama has created during his presidency.
Words of support for police are nice, but what we need is loud, visceral denunciation of the chief instigators of these assassinations - Obama, Holder, Sharpton, DeBlasio, the mayor and DA of Baltimore, etc.
Trump needs to step up the way he’s done with illegal alien criminals and name names in no uncertain terms. Hold their feet to the fire.
If he did that, he would lock up his nomination and more than likely the presidency.
Obama and Holder have picked at this, rubbed salt into the wound and selectively commented to make sure that it festers and infects attitudes and outcomes.
Nothing to do with the atmosphere?
Just another snufflupagus who has inhaled and snorted it deeply? Ah, but forget about what Obama has done.
And to demand apologies is so, please excuse me, liberal. A more conservative approach would be to request the assurance that company policy will be supportive towards traditional causes such as lawful law enforcement.
Blood on their hands and a mess for the next president to fix. The next president will need a strong, independent, and respected Attorney General and head of FBI, etc. I still think this is perfect place for Cruz while he waits a seat on the Supreme Court (if that is what he wants). I don’t see him adding to Trump’s ticket as VP.
Two separate issues. As a corporate citizen Arby’s needs and apparently is/has taken action. And should make clear they don’t tolerate this behavior. Unless the officer wants to sue, that should be the end of it unless you are suggesting a Jesse Jackson-style shakedown of Arby’s?
Really, tied together because it would recognize that the need is solidarity towards a common foe rather than to take apology grubbing potshots.
... Moving on…..
TD Ameritrades billionaire founder Joe Ricketts {INSERT BIG FLASHY WALL STREET SIGNAL HERE}, his wife, Marlene, and their son Todd together gave just over $5 million to a super PAC supporting Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walkers Republican presidential ambitions.
The Ricketts family owns the Chicago Cubs.
Diane Hendricks, the billionaire executive of a wholesale roofing company headquartered in Wisconsin, also wrote a $5 million check.
Those donors accounted for half of the money raised by the pro-Walker super PAC, called Unintimidated
Richard Uihlein and his wife, Elizabeth, gave $2.5 million.
In recent years, Uihlein moved his packaging supply company, Uline, entirely out of Illinois and into Wisconsin because of tax incentives.
We all know who’s running that Super-PAC don’t we?
That would be Brad Dayspring, of Mississippi race-baiting and ‘lets-pay-democrats-to vote-in-the-GOP primary’ fame.
Hey, it worked, thanks to Dayspring we have Thad Cochran in the senate.
A real harbinger of conservatism that Cochran fellow. ...
Walker: "Cold blooded assassination"
Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clark strong Walker supporter.
President Obama - whether a group voted for you or not, the president needs to do the right thing and show leadership.
Voters want to see more vibrant Walker in next debate.
They're going to get it.
Who is your candidate?
I’m sorry but I don’t think that’s going to cut it.
We’re in a war - kumbaya won’t win it.
But now Jeb's in trouble, and the very fact that the RNC and some of the money people don't want to go to some of these survivors who already announced, they want to go back to Mitt, what does it tell you? Well, it tells you a lot. But, I mean, this is pathetic. The last best hope is 2012's loser? As opposed to one or two of the others who have announced who have been campaigning, who have been on the stump, who have been raising money, who've been out making speeches, who've been out making their case. Now if Jeb doesn't make it, if the money leaves and we gotta get somebody in there to replace Jeb that's gonna hold on to the money and that's gonna be Romney?"
