4,000 mile trips to the Alaskan wilderness weren’t very practical if not life threatening in the 1890’s.
Another perspective on the Mt. McKinley dustoff - but this point is important:
But now, by order of the president, another law has been trashed. One wonders what other statutes Obama will overrule during his remaining months in office.
We have all seen far too many instances with this regime, that the law can and will change weekly, perhaps daily, to suit the needs of The Agenda.
"The issue is never the issue - the issue is The Revolution".
Just by EO 13603 alone, Amendments 2, 4, 5, and 8 will disappear at a whim...

Remember Cape Canaveral then Cape Kennedy then back to Cape Canaveral.
Wow, the Athabascans get their meaningless name back and the Navajo still have a river poisoned by the EPA destroying their farm land.
“When Obama renames Kenya Obamaland & moves there.........”
Congress should name Kenya “Obamaland” and deport him there.
Cape Canaveral became Cape Kennedy back in 1963, and eventually was renamed back to Canaveral. The launch sight retained the Kennedy name.
If by that you mean handing it over to Cuba I'll agree.
And shortly thereafter Russia and China move in.
Very True and a good point.
It was Jackie who suggested to LBJ the rename as appropriate to JFK's efforts in the 'Space Race' and he did it by (TaDa) Executive Order but it was later approved by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names of the Interior Department (same ones approving the Denali name change!)
However most of the locals in Florida were unenthused about renaming the entire cape, especially with a local 'City of Cape Canaveral', and by 1973 the Democrat Florida Legislature pushed the compromise of returning the old name of Cape Canaveral but retaining the NASA facility as Kennedy Space Center. Thus political compromise but one of quick change after only a decade!
I keep waiting for the name change from Washington DC to Obamatown DC.

U.S.S. Edward M. Kennedy, next naval ship to be named for Fat Teddy the Traitorous ‘RAT, diabolically appropriate considering how Teddy eagerly worked to undermine the Reagan Administration’s military and foreign policies by making overtures to the Soviet Union’s Chairman Andropov. There are my three projected executive orders coming from lil boy Barky, anyone care to add to them? <

Trump is going to change it back. Rule of law restored.

The natives can call it what they want to.

Trump was foolish to meddle in this mostly irrelevant action
Trump is foolishly well on his way to winning the GOP nomination and the Presidency.

“I think this goes down as one of two right things Obama may have done in as President . Nobody in Alaska called it McKinley when I was there.”
You missed the whole point. It is not whether it was good to change the name, or that most in Alaska wanted it. It was whether or not Obama has the authority, by means of his pen, to invalidate a law that has been on the books for many years. If he could, he would set himself up as dictator of the whole country! Jan 2017 can’t come fast enough!
[[Obama trashes another law]]
What’s worse is that the GOP-e ALLOW Him to trash the LAW!
[[Trump is going to change it back. Rule of law restored.]]
Too bad we don’t have enough CONSERVATIVES in government to uphold the law instead of allowing it to be VIOLATED and then HOPE to restore it later
Sorry, but it was not ‘good’ for our president to VIOLATE the law like he’s done several times now- This action should have been brought before congress and voted on like the law requires-
Yeah, you would think if Republicans had control of either the house or the senate, they would have immediately passed a referendum reminding the President that Mt. McKinley's name was established by law, and that as President he is sworn to uphold the laws.
