Blood oozed through the soil at grave sites. You could see the pits move, some of them were still al

'Seventy years on from the end of the Second World War the full, shocking scale of the Nazi-inspired Holocaust in Ukraine is finally being revealed - thanks to pioneering work by a French Catholic priest to research the truth of the industrial-scale killing.

Around 2,000 mass graves of Jewish victims have been located where men, women and children were shot and buried by the Germans and their collaborators.

But there maybe up to 6,000 more sites to uncover, with victims of this 'Holocaust of bullets' - so called because unlike in Poland and Germany where gas chambers were used as the means of slaughter - here most were summarily shot and buried nearby.

In many cases, the Jews were ordered to dig pits and then to strip naked before they were mown down by their murderers.

Some were buried in the unmarked plots while still alive.'

In fact, the inspiration for building places like Auschwitz came when Himmler realized that the valuables the Jews were carrying were buried with them in the pits, and there had to be a way of killing where they could get those valuables from them. Also killing by bullets was deemed “inhumane”.....for the Germans.

Another reason I don’t shed any tears over what happened to Dresden.

I have British friends who wail over that. And, of course, the bomb.

When people start going down the road of..., the Jews run this, or the Jews own that, or some other nonsense equally troubling, the pictures reminding us of what the NAZI did come to mind.

Folks, it all started back then with the Jews run this, or the Jews own that, or some other nonsense equally troubling.

I have a bit of a problem with the title (not your fault, I know). It implies that the Ukraine as a nation was responsible for the atrocities committed on its soil.

Yes, I know there were Ukrainian collaborators who were quite willing to follow Nazi orders. But that was true in every occupied country, bar none.

It would have been better to have said "...the centre in Ukraine".

The urbanite sophisticates are so offended by those devil incarnate firearms, aren’t they?

Never, never never give up your guns. Never. Governments are never to be trusted to be rational nor prudent.

Whenever I read one of these stories my blood begins to boil...

The Nazis began with slaughtering with bullets but they found that the soldiers had a hard time being killing machines, especially with the people looking right at them, without being plied with alcohol first. It was after that they designed a "better way" to kill people with the flip of a switch. Only the hardiest of the psychopaths could coldly kill regardless of any other factor.

Sort of reminds me of now in the abortion killing centers where they chop off the baby's arms and feet so they are less inclined to factor in the baby's humanity.

It wasn’t just the Jews. Even before WWII the Soviet Ukranians and others mass killed in a similar manner, or starved to death, millions of people. Remember that Stalin and Hitler were allies at first.

Just read the book Bloodlands that chronicles all this killing even before the Nazis came along and showed them how to do it more efficiently.

This went on over a vast area including what are now Ukraine, Poland, Slovenia, Latvia, Estonia, Russia.

Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin
http://www.amazon.com/Bloodlands-Europe-Between-Hitler-Stalin/dp/0465031471

Americans call the Second World War “The Good War.” But before it even began, America’s wartime ally Josef Stalin had killed millions of his own citizens—and kept killing them during and after the war.

Before Hitler was finally defeated, he had murdered six million Jews and nearly as many other Europeans. At war’s end, both the German and the Soviet killing sites fell behind the iron curtain, leaving the history of mass killing in darkness.

That’s why I say the best-case scenario was Hitler taking Moscow, leading to Stalin’s ouster and perhaps replacement with a Non-Bolshevik government that leads Russia to victory along with the Allies, No more Hiter, No more Bolsheviks.

I used to think the same. However, after reading a bio of Churchill recently, I learned that the allies were quite worried that Stalin would make peace with Hitler and drop out of the war. Stalin had hinted that it was a possibility. It took so long for the allies to get ready to take the fight to Hitler, that they worried they could not defeat Hitler if Stalin made peace with Hitler. That's why they kissed Stalin's ass and covered up the Katyn massacre.

I don't see Hitler making peace with Russia; defeating Russia was Hitler's raison d'etre. It was his life's goal, everything he ever did was aimed towards that end.
