Majority of Food Stamp Recipients Are Now Working Age Adults, Not Children or Seniors
Daily Signal ^

The nation’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly food stamps) experienced mixed results in 2014. Participation and average benefit amounts fell slightly from the previous year, but the program remains much larger than it was a decade ago, despite an improving economy. And far too few working-age adults receiving SNAP are in fact working, even years into the recovery. The program may appear to be on the right track—but it is far from perfect and traveling much too slowly.

Food stamp program is used for everything else but food. Drug addicts trade it in for drugs, money to buy drugs, other trade it in for lotto tickets, beer, liquor and cigs and other making a thriving business and cash outs. Another form of back door reparations at the American taxpayer expense

We all know 20/30 year olds with no visible means of support, right? I’m not talking about those living w/ mom & pop, either.
I know of a few who must clearly be living off taxpayer assistance. And have been for years. If they are trying to find a job, they are failing.
Even in this weak 0bama economy, there are some jobs available. Too many seem willing to accept a “Go to the mailbox, then sit on the couch” existence.
(Yes, I know they no longer mail the food stamps and welfare/disability checks. Even that is too much trouble for these lay-abouts.)

As a triage interviewer at a local food/clothing bank, I hear all sorts of stories about how to scam food stamps.

My fav: go to a higher end grocery and buy the choicest cuts of meat. Your cost: $zero. Resell this meat to your friends and neighbors at .25 to .50 cents on the dollar. 100% profit.

I, for one, (still) see no need to hire, say, road-side crews (mowing, clean-up) when we have so many incarcerated and/or on the public teet.

It is an extra insult, after being robbed to support the leeches (I could have swore I read about a 5th...something or the other), we don’t demand ‘free labor’ for the $$.

It’s my understanding Goldman-Sachs makes millions managing the financial “backend” of these various transactions.

The system seems so very rigged it’s disheartening.

If you look at the data it is mostly single moms; no political will to cut this.

I’m apparently not built for that sort of commerce: I would never be able to debase myself and offer a neighbor or a friend ‘discounted’ groceries of any kind.

The casual acceptance of being on the dole has brought Europe to financial ruin and we are well on the way. Lefties want to eliminate the ‘stigma of being on public assistance’ but stigmas are more accurately termed a complex set of societal approvals and disapprovals and have worked to build Western civilization. Lefties, of course, want nothing and nobody standing between them and absolute dependence, which lefties regard as allegiance.

Yes, at least require cleaning up the public spaces or something to get that free money!

You know, I hadn't thought of that! But sure, the big banks are probably paid handsomely to transfer those billions of taxpayer dollars to the recipients every month.

Lobbying works!!! (for the politically connected)

We need to take the approval process out of the hands of the system that benefits from there being food stamp recipients. I’d like to see a county board of commissioners requirement to cast final approving vote on any food stamp award, and that renewable every other year. They could get eyes on the actual person and determine if they were able-bodied. Everyone wants to take care of the truly needy. No one wants to support continued dependency.

I grew up eating white beans & cornbread mostly. I was glad to get school lunches (which my PARENTS worked & paid for!); the homemade rolls from the school cafeteria were really tasty! My parents would not have tolerated picky eaters. I’m 69. - These days, kids won’t eat anything unless it has a slice of pizza stuck on it.

Yep, I know a few too, one is my ex son-in-law. About 15 years ago, he “hurt” his back on the job installing wind shields. He’s been riding the disability gravy train ever since. Oh, by the way, he still installs auto glass on the QT, pays no taxes and still collects that disability checks every month like clock work.

I’ve reported him three times, with details about what work he’s doing and for whom..................................Nothing happens. It’s like government agencies don’t want to be bothered with it.
