I like the “Weekend at Bernie’s” idea, but I still think Biden gets this call from central casting...

Who would be better than a guy already brain dead?

The one with the bald guy with the orange shirt. I’m not that bald guy. I’m a bald guy further down. I was about 8 rows back.

I'm from Oklahoma so it seemed subdued. But it would probably take a Yankee to judge it contextually.

Doughty, I’m no sage. I don’t have to be. I’ve had Trump pegged for what he is since the first time I laid eyes on him. It’s not hard to see...it’s all over him.

FR has always despised McAuliffe and recognized him for the lowlife slime he is, so your use of the word dislike is mild in comparison.

If Trump had any moral core, any principles, even the tiniest shred of conservatism, he wouldn’t have donated to McAuliffe.

If you had his money, would you have done it? Would Ted Cruz? Would Scott Walker, even? Rick Santorum? Ben Carson?

Of course not. It doesn’t surprise me that Trump, did, though.

I don’t care what comes out of his mouth. Talk is cheap. The man is completely unsuitable material for the office of the president.

"Wow. That is a lot of money to donate to that sleaze bucket."

Yes, it is, and some Trump supporters might try to say, well, that's pennies to Trump. Not the issue, though. What matters is that it helped McAuliffe quite a bit.

"Sadly, a lot of people on our side are easily swayed by rhetoric from someone who at best may be newly leaning right."

I don't even think he's doing that. I think Trump knows his audience and he knows what they want to hear, so he's trying to talk like a conservative.

Look at him yesterday...just all of a sudden claiming he always says Merry Christmas.

He thought of that in August?

He's totally off the cuff, thinking of red meat conservatives might like and tossing it out there. But he keeps tripping himself up and saying things that don't quite compute because he's really a liberal.

He even said as much on MSNBC three weeks ago...he told them many of his positions are those of a Democrat.

"I hope in two years we will not be sitting here complaining how conservatives were deceived by a shyster who only pretended to be conservative to win the primaries."

His supporters are necessarily sliding leftward in order to support this guy. I just came from a thread where someone claimed that the next president will have to be a dictator, so it might as well be Trump. And he is far from the first Trump supporter who has put forth that view.

LOL, you know, you kind of out yourself from the word go don't you.  You had Trump pegged from the first moment you laid eyes on him?

That's actually rather childish.  He's a braggadocio.  So is Rush.  I like them both.

It's all over him?  What's seems to be all over him is the foul stench of people making assumptions that don't know the man at all.

How do you know what is in his heart?  How do you know that he doesn't truly want to return this nation to it's former status?  When he talks about what he want's to do, he addresses the right things from the right angle.

Maybe folks shouldn't listen to you when you do that.

FR has always despised McAuliffe and recognized him for the lowlife slime he is, so your use of the word dislike is mild in comparison.

Ah, not satisfied with judging Trump, you're now into reading my mind as well.  I only said dislike, so I must be soft on the Clinton's and their fellow travelers.

You're a hoot.

If Trump had any moral core, any principles, even the tiniest shred of conservatism, he wouldn’t have donated to McAuliffe.

...hadn't wet the bed, kicked little puppies, hid the milk form his siblings...  He donated to Hillary Clinton too.  Frankly I think that's a worse offense.  If you're going after the guy, do it right.

Were you politically aware your whole life?  Not everyone is.  Some folks think from different perspectives.  When you run a business enterprise worth billions, you think in terms of what keeps the wheels of your organization oiled.

Now while that may seem evil to you and I, I'm thinking it doesn't seem so evil to Trump's 22,500 employees.  It isn't evil enough for his city, country, state, and nation to forgo the taxes he owes.

Do you think he should just shut down his enterprises and go off somewhere and hide?

If you had his money, would you have done it? Would Ted Cruz? Would Scott Walker, even? Rick Santorum? Ben Carson?

I couldn't have, but then I'm focused on politics.  While I was sitting reading FR, Donald Trump was increasing the value of his business to over $11 billion dollars.

By Trump doing that, he helped tens of thousands of families meet their expenses.  Wives, husbands, children, other family members, local businesses, local schools, cities, counties, states, and the federal government benefitted.  So did you and I.

If it weren't for folks like Trump, our tax base wouldn't be as productive as it is.  Do you have any idea how much taxes 22,500 people pay?

That goes to pay for some things Conservatives do believe in like the military, highways, infrastructure, education, Social Security, Medicare...  And yes, while we don't like some of those things, at the moment they are what gets some of our elderly people by.  Until we change those programs, we need to fund them.  So yes, when a guy like Trumps ignores politics in terms like we do, that may not mean that he's a total social leper.

He can have core values that are better than what we assume.  He's sure not spouting Leftist drivel right now.

Of course not. It doesn’t surprise me that Trump, did, though.

Well why should it?  You've know him since the moment you first saw him.

I don’t care what comes out of his mouth. Talk is cheap. The man is completely unsuitable material for the office of the president.

Well, we're going to find out aren't we.  I guess when you agree with what Trump is pushing, we should just ignore what comes out of your mouth too.

Heard Trump answer some question on the Iran nuclear deal, his answer was so general and full of platitudes that I could have said as much. IMO his knowledge is superficial and no where near that of Ted Cruz. Trump seems to know what to say when/where he is ie he has the right script and is no different than Obama.

Even the very elect are being deceived.

I don't usually get into threads about Trump. It's unpleasant to encounter fellow FReepers who claim to be Conservative and twist themselves into pretzels trying to defend Trump. I'm glad to hear that there are some FReepers who are honest to themselves and admit that they know Trump's Liberal tendency and personality flaws. But, they want to win so badly that they don't mind their own benevolent dictator. They look for solutions in the wrong place. Our rights are endowed by our Creator, not dictator.

I am a day late with this post, but I just want to thank you all who recognize that what Trump is adding to the discussion is dissatisfaction ...not much more.
Trying to offer words of encouragement, my daughter just said that the pollsters should ask a two pronged question:
Do you like Trump?..Then, Would you VOTE for him?
The results might just be different.

Yeah, that's right...pegged. As a liberal BS artist. If you look at Trump threads from just a few years ago, that was also the forum's general impression of him. And correctly so, as his past actions only confirm it.

I'm not interested in "what ifs" or "maybe he's changed." Three weeks ago, he told "Morning Joe" that many of his positions are those of a Democrat. I'll take him at his word rather than try to see in him something I wish were there.

Look, much of your post is just an emotional, offended reaction to the fact that I brought some very hard truth about your hero to the table. That's what happens with you folks, over and over. I like Cruz and I'll defend him against unfair criticism, but I'm not emotionally attached to him.

Trying to defend that shyster against supporting McAuliffe by saying, well, but some of his employees might be conservative so the salaries from Trump helped them pay their taxes.

Really, Doughty? Really?

Then you descend to ad hominem, and from out of nowhere an accusation that I want him to shut up and go away.

And finally you stamp your foot and yell that you're going to ignore me.

Wow. I wish you could step back and see just how unseemly your outburst was, how unsuited to a supposed thinking conservative. But you're so swept up in head-over-heels love for Trump that you refuse to vet him. You will make an excuse for anything he does, no matter how disgusting.

This is how tyranny is born....from mindless devotion to personalities who promise the moon.

For the record, just so you know, I don't want Trump to "shut down his enterprises and go hide" (such irrational emotionalism). Business is where he belongs, because he is absolute unsuitable material for the office of the presidency.

I wouldn't vote for the liberal sleazebag under any circumstances. Hope that's clear enough for you.

He gave himself away when he said he’s never asked God for forgiveness. That was as revealing as Obama’s slipup “my muslim faith” and his inability to make a campaign speech which didn’t refer to his goal of accumulating power for the sake of power.

When it comes to never asking God for forgiveness, he and Obama and Hillary and the attendees at the last Democrat convention and others who have no use for God have far more in common with each other than with us.

Agreed.

From what others have told me about his speech yesterday, he was all over the place...just rambling and not very coherent. Some folks in the audience were leaving early.

Amen. It's hard to believe conservatives could lose sight of that inarguable fact and allow their desperation to push them into very unwise choices.

I suspect Biden gets the nod as well. I don’t think Michelle wants it and no one else close to Obama looks any better. Poor Bernie’s a great hippie, but you just can’t get any social justice warrior cred coming out of Vermont whereas Biden could pretend he was GHW Bush going for the teams 3rd term. However I also recall Joe’s last presidential run where he was sitting at 1% in the polls here in Iowa. Throw Hillary overboard for Joe and I bet many Clinton supporters sit out the election. Joe better pick a diverse VP or the hard core feminists and blacks will sit. Baltimore’s mayor would make sense to those sorts, thinking the media will find some way to make her seem competent.
