Donald Trump pulled up in a long black limousine and gave a very presidential wave as he made his way into the building. Then the billionaire promptly found himself seated next to ordinary, wage-earning, subway-riding New Yorkers, forced to wait

At least he did his civic duty. Most in his position would try to weasel out of it.

Didn’t George W. Bush get called for jury duty last week? I believe he was able to avoid it also.

Dubya did not avoid jury duty. He showed up just like Trump and they just did not pick him. Who wants a former President and a Billionaire on a jury? Lawyers like people who they can manipulate.

I wonder what he put down on the form for “Hobbies”

A pretty surreal situation...

Trump’s day, minus the bodyguards and selfies, was exactly how mine went last December. Most people go in, don’t get picked, and go home that night.

Didn’t George W. Bush get called for jury duty last week? I believe he was able to avoid it also.

As I recall, he showed up, spent most of the day and was dismissed without being selected for a jury. I have been called at least a half dozen times, and in all but one, the same happened to me. The one time I was selected for a jury, the defendant took a plea deal minutes before the trial was to start. So I have never really "served" on a jury but I have done my civic duty just by showing up and being available.

People in Trump' s or Bush's position normally don't even show... they get excused beforehand. Good to them for showing up.

I have served on two. One, after telling the judge on Tues that I had a soeech in Chicago on Fri, they seated me saying it would be over by Wed. By Thurs morning we weren't close, so they excused me. The other trial was done in a day.

As much as it was a lot of waiting and inconvenient, I am very hpgrateful to have served and came out with a heightened respect for the system.

I know he went but I thought he was excused from serving on the jury. I wasn’t very clear in my comment. Apologies.

“[A] ble to avoid” is not necessarily the right term. Trump was challenged and rejected. The same may have happened to W. I was called several years ago, made no attempt to avoid jury duty, and was released after I was preemptively challenged by the defense.

Yes. Sorry, I don’t make my comments very clear. I knew he appeared, but was excused.

Having a Kindle app on my phone saved me on my last jury duty appearance. I fired it up and read a good part of a Winston Churchill volume on WW2.

Defense: Mr. Trump, do you think you can be fair and unbiased in this case. Even though Alfredo is an illegal who’s been arrested 17 times before?

Trump: Of course, bring the guilty sucker in.

Defense: Dismissed

Celebs just don’t make for good jurors. They never get picked. As long as they show up when called its all good.
