A Letter to Donald Trump Supporters With One Big Question
The Atlantic ^ | 08/14/2015 | CONOR FRIEDERSDORF

Posted on 08/14/2015 6:20:19 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Dear Donald Trump Supporters:

You’re fed up. This much I understand. You’re fed up with politicians who say one thing on the campaign trail, like that they’re going to stop illegal immigration, and then do another in Washington; you’re fed up with insiders who rig the system for their benefit at your expense; and you’re fed up with coastal media elites and their insular subculture.

On some level I sympathize. In the last presidential election, I couldn’t bring myself to vote for any of the candidates. I just left it blank. I wanted nothing to do with my awful options.

What I don’t understand is why you think a President Trump would treat us better. If you elect the billionaire, what makes you think that he will use whatever talents that he possesses to address your grievances rather than to benefit himself? After all, he’s a man who has zealously pursued his self-interest all his life.

He’s done so as a developer in New York City, where one must be a connected insider to succeed in real estate. He is himself a member of the media elite: a reality television start who had lucrative relationships with NBC and Univision. When he has a problem with Fox News, he calls Roger Ailes on the phone!

Remember that moment in the Republican debate where he talked about giving money to politicians so that, if he wanted them to do something, they would? Then he was asked, you gave money to Hillary Clinton, so what, exactly, did she do for you? He replied that when he called and told her to come to his wedding, she did. If you were getting married, would you want Hillary Clinton sitting in the front row?

THE QUESTIONS IN THIS LETTER IS ALL ABOUT TRUST...

FOR EXAMPLE:

Right now, Trump is telling you all the things you want to hear.

There was a time when his two ex-wives and the many former business partners he has since sued felt the same way. Those relationships didn’t work out very well for them.

Why do you think that you’ll fare better?

What makes you at the Atlantic mag believe voting for the same is going changes things for the better?

AS I said, it is a question of trust.

I guess the question would be, how do we know voting for Trump won’t be really voting for what’s the same?

Genuine democratic process from the People can be uncontrollable. This is a fact lost on the mainstream media and on pundits like the author of this article.

Its actually refreshing.

Yes. It's unknown what he will do as President. But we KNOW what 15 out of 17 Republican candidates (Cruz excepted) will do...betray conservatives and continue to march steadily to the left and continue to ruin America.

At least with Trump he understands the American way and the American dream.

That’s what the author is trying to present.

>>What I don’t understand is why you think a President Trump would treat us better.

I don’t think he would treat us any worse. But, he would treat THEM (the career politicians, media, etc) much, much worse than they get treated now in their role as “American Nobility”.

You see, at this point, the people of America expect to get treated like crap. We’re just tired of those who see themselves as “our betters” catered to as if they have actually done anything except to win some beauty and/or popularity contests.

But, we are really sick of douchebags writing these “I have one question to ask [those stupid, stupid] Trump supporters” articles.

I’m not supporting Trump. But I will vote for him over Jeb Bush.

There are two things different about Trump.

1. He is frightening all the political class. You can see there efforts to bring him down. That would not be the case if they considered him one of them.

2. As a Repubican, he would not have the old media on his side. It does not matter if a Republican does what they want. They still do everything they can to destroy him. Just consider Nixon and Bush the First, even Dubya. The media will be a much more effective watchdog on Trump than they ever were on Obama, Clinton, or Carter.

THE RED SONS OF BITCHES THINK THEY CAN STEAL MONEY FROM THE PRODUCTIVE CLASS VIA THE ELECTORAL PROCESS.

WRONG.

Voting for virtually every candidate in GOP is voting for the same. They work for the same party as Boehner and Mitch McConnell. I look back at W. Bush where he squandered many chances to move the ball.

Doing the same over and over again and expecting new results is a form insanity. At least that’s what I hear. In the case of the GOPE it’s like hitting your head against a stone wall. They talk , if that much, and do nothing. DC needs a reset, and some someone to open them up like a can opener.

Voting for “what’s the same” is voting for what’s the same. Trump is the what is different, if not, why would both sides hate him? He has my vote.

Can you trust a man who is willing to lose millions in business as he has with canceled contracts, shows, etc. YES

Can you trust a man who is wanted dead by the most notorious Mexican criminal in the world, but still continues his campaign to “Make America Great Again”? YES

Just like our founders who committed their lives, sacred honor, etc. to bring us a great nation.

Name one candidate who is spending his own $, losing $ from his businesses, has a price on his head and marches forward anyway.

Answer: the GOP has abused us, the base. We’ve had enough. We don’t trust party Republicans. Bush? No. Christie? No. And on down the line, possible exceptions for Cruz and Fiorina.

You got a better option with a better chance of actually doing something?

I guess the question would be, how do we know voting for Trump won’t be really voting for what’s the same?

I wish I could see what you're driving at. The same question could apply to any candidate running.

Is it possible to fool people? Why yes. Is that somehow new with DT's candidacy? No.

So...what is being said of Trump in this article/letter could be said about any human being. Is there some point to all this planting of doubt?

(Disclaimer: R2z financially supports FR and Ted Cruz 100% but is not against Trump because DT is deflecting much flak from the mindless press and GOPe giving cover to Ted Cruz and is running first and fast downfield as a highly-effective blocker.)
