FERGUSON, Mo. (Reuters) - Four white men carrying military-style rifles and sidearms added a disquieting element to riot-torn Ferguson, Missouri, when they began patrolling the streets before dawn on Tuesday, which police quickly labeled "inflammatory."
The men said they were part of a group called "Oath Keepers," which describes itself as a non-partisan association of current and former U.S. soldiers, police and first responders who aim to protect the U.S. Constitution. They told reporters on the street that they were in Ferguson to protect a media organization.
The men attracted immediate attention in the mostly black neighborhood, which exploded into violence on Sunday night as protesters marked the one-year anniversary of the killing of an unarmed black teen by police.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, a non-profit civil rights organization, has described the "Oath Keepers" as a "fiercely anti-government, militaristic group," and St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar condemned their appearance in Ferguson.
"Their presence was both unnecessary and inflammatory," he said, adding that police would work with county prosecutors to see if the men had broken any laws.

SPLC would have been the first moan about the anti-government patriots that won the nation’s independence. I wonder what they SPLC’s view on anti-government groups that opposed slavery???

In 1858 John Brown after causing a disturbance was killed at Harper’s Ferry, Virginia. Three years later the Civil War began. In 2014 Michael Brown caused a disturbance and was killed in Ferguson, Missouri...... Just wondering.
I remember these folks, they started out looking like a generic civil rights charity and ended up going mad.
If the government can’t do its job and protect the people, the people will protect themselves.
It’s o.k. to carry guns in the street if you don’t know what you are doing (thugs), or if you plan on running away at the first sign of trouble (police) but if you know what you are doing and plan on winning any potential conflict, that is considered “inflammatory”.

Someone has to protect law abiding citizens since the politicians are telling the police to standdown
Isn’t it racist to suggest that 4 armed White men are a superior force to both the police and any rioters of any race who probably are also armed?

I have read a few things about Oath Keepers, and I don’t remember the media as being on their list of things to protect.
