Russian Warships Dock In Iran for War Training
Washington Free Beacon ^ | August 10, 2015 | By Adam Kredo

Two Russian warships have docked in northern Iran for a series of naval training exercises with the Islamic Republic, according to Persian-language reports translated by the CIA’s Open Source Center.

The two Russian ships docked in Iran’s Anzali port on Sunday and will hold “joint naval exercises during the three-day stay of the warships in Iran,” according to a Persian-language report in Iran’s state-controlled Fars News Agency.

“The [Russian] warships, Volgodonsk and Makhachkala docked in Anzali Port [near the Caspian Sea], in the fourth naval zone, on the afternoon of 9 August,” the report says.

The war exercises come just weeks after Iran and global powers inked a nuclear accord that will provide Iran with billions of dollars in sanctions relief in return for slight restrictions on the country’s nuclear program.

Russian and Iran have grown close in recent years, with delegations from each country regularly visiting one another to ink arms deals and other agreements aimed at strengthening Iran’s nuclear program.

Russia and Iran agreed earlier this year to begin construction on several new nuclear power plants. Russia has also agreed to sell Iran a controversial advanced missile defense system that can prevent attacks by Western powers. . .

As predicted....Iran gets the weapons, Russia gets the cash...to fund Russian weapons.

Was it Khrushchev who predicted that the U.S. would sell them the rope with which they would hang us?

I have what may be a really stupid question.

Why would Russia ally with islamic terrorists when they are trying to eliminate the same bunch from their own nation?

Money. Russia also thinks they can use these mouth breathers to further quicken our demise as a super power and then they will handle their own problem with them. They learned nothing from Afghanistan circa 1908’s.

That makes sense, if they look down on them and consider them fools.

Could also be a return to the historical division of spheres of influence in i iran whereby Obama is giving Russia back the northern zone? Just a guess but it looks this way

This “deal” marks the beginning of the end of coercive American involvement in the region. It had been America’s stated policy that Iran must dismantle its nuclear infrastructure and never be permitted to have nuclear weapons. The US had assembled powerful military forces in the region and had instituted punishing economic sanctions to effectuate that policy. Face it. Obama has changed that policy and has backed off. Give the Iranians credit. They withstood the pressure and won.

Like Obama, the Russians see Iran as the dominant power in the Middle East.

The Chechens are overwhelmingly Sunni Muslims while Iran is mostly Shia.

It all comes down to oil and natural gas.

The Saudis and Qataris want to build a series of pipeline through to the Mediterranean Sea, primarily to cheaply transfer natural gas to Europe and Turkey.

This pipeline would go through Iraq and Syria and use Syrian port facilities as a shipping point.

Russia has a natural gas monopoly in East and West Europe , the revenues for which are propping up the Russian economy.

The only obstacle to the pipeline is Syria will not allow access for the pipeline because they are allied with Russia and Russia is propping up Assad in Syria to keep the pipeline from crossing Syria so as not to undermine Russia's energy monopoly in Europe.

ISIS is backed by the Middle East Oil States, although it is becoming a bit of a Frankenstein's Monster that is becoming a threat to them as well.

Syria is being propped up by Iranian forces so Russia is backing up Iran to help them keep the oil states tied down with problems.

Russia also gets lots of business from Iran due to the sanctions and the freeing of frozen American funds will be a huge boon to Russia resulting in tens of billions of dollars in revenues.

It's a very dangerous game because all sides are fanning the flames of war in the region
