In a blog posted on Friday on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s website, the department boasts that food stamp spending at U.S. farmers markets has increased “nearly six-fold” since 2008.

“National SNAP redemptions at those outlets totaled $18.8 million during fiscal year 2014 (Oct. 1 to Sept. 30), a nearly six-fold increase since 2008,” the blog states, calling the increase “a win-win for all.” (SNAP is the acronym for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the food stamp program.) Local rural people here actually have benefited from this. The producers and users both.

Of course, food stamps are still the scam they’ve always been.

No, it’s not a win—it’s offensive. Poor average Americans can’t afford the boutique prices of premium produce from the modern farmer’s market—but they are funding it for food stamps recipients!

I have seen signs at my local about accepting ebt cards. Since fresh eggs cost $10 for a dozen, even my money doesn’t go too far.

Hmmm Why does the word “qualifying” scare me...does this mean one has to be a Democratic campaign contributor?

Could have something to do with the fact that this is RELENTLESSLY ADVERTISED at virtually every Farmers’ Market that springs up all over town, ALL SUMMER LONG!

A vendor at a farmer’s market near me makes pricey desserts.

She refused to take a SNAP card for her desserts saying the cards should be used for more essential foods.

The farmer’s market people kicked her out because of her “discriminitory” action.

I doubt that this is helping most of the people in the beloved demographics, as they are mostly clustered in the inner cities. I’m sure there are some rural beloveds being helped by this, however.

Exactly.
The intent of this is to hide that Food Stamps are a gift to big donors.

I caught an email in my inbox from one of many organizations on which I somehow are on their ‘list’ that was touting something NOT mentioned in the OP article:

SNAP-matching at Farmers Markets

https://oregonhunger.org/farmers-markets-snap

THIS is why SNAP is up at Farmers Markets (duh, right? And WE end up paying for it)
