I wonder how things would have turned out with Herman Cain had he adopted the same tactics that Trump is using today.
When Cain came under attack four years ago for his "bimbo eruptions", he disappeared behind his lawyers and we never heard from him again. He quietly folded his tent and slunk away. He showed us that he was not a fighter.
To some extent, Sarah Palin also allowed the mainstream media to define her. She did fight back a little but in the end she withdrew herself from the battle and to this day, she's still a laughingstock among the liberal elite.
There are other examples of rising political stars who allowed themselves to be defined and destroyed by the opposition. Pat Buchanan, Gary Hart and Dan Quayle are three others I can name off the top of my head.
It appears that Trump is determined to fight back and this is something we do not often see.
