How an obscure motion to 'vacate the chair' spoils House GOP's August vacation (WAHHHHHHH!!)
csmonitor.com ^ | 7/31/15 | John Feheery

The House is hitting the highways after passing a three-month extension of the Highway bill. In the game of chicken between the chambers of Congress, both sides blinked and the only real victim seems to be the small businesses that care deeply about the Export Import Bank.

Republican leaders had a plan to talk about the Iran deal and some of their legislative accomplishments over the August recess. Unfortunately, Mark Meadows threw a monkey wrench into that plan.

At the behest of somebody, the North Carolina second-term congressman and subcommittee chairman made a non-privileged motion to vacate the chair.

Recommended: So you think you know Congress? Take our quiz.

I am not sure what a non-privileged motion to vacate the chair is, actually. A motion to vacate the chair is basically an effort to oust a sitting Speaker of the House. It is a privileged motion, by definition, although the parliamentary tactic is not specifically mentioned in the Rules of the House.

If Boehner had any dignity he would simply step down and claim he was doing it for the greater good of the house.

Now the summer to get members to commit to new speaker, Bohner then resigns. Would be nice.

John certainly does not have a clue about the conflict between Boehner and the conservative caucus.

“...the small businesses that care deeply about the Export-Import Bank”

What a total crock!

I myself am a small businessman AND am in the field of international trade.

I can assure you that we small businessmen only “care deeply” that this mega corporation welfare program be killed ASAP!

Christian Science Monitor.
At one time, in the distant past, it was an interesting read. Sort of a mix of views to balance things out.
With D-Bags like Feheery, guess I will be “turning the page’, so to say, on this once august publication.

Language is the first casualty of war.
The BigMedia’s intentional obfuscation of “Republican” and “Conservative” is just too much.
Will SOMEONE just tinkle in their Wheaties already?

maybe the elected officials can take the Lobbyist teat out of their mouth long enough to do what we elected them for.

No, they are all paid whores. Think they will come home to face the ones who sent them to Washington?

Hell no they are on their way to the south pacific to check on a turtle.

It’s hard for the Tea Party to get any traction when you have Donald Trump. Why pay for crazy when you can get it for free?

I hate Christian Science Monitor.

Not Christian.
Not scientific.
Doesn't monitor anything.
Fairly evil.
