Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Jeb Bush together in the biggest swing state hoping to win over a crucial minority group that could determine the presidency.
No, you didn't somehow hibernate through 15 months and wake up on the eve of the 2016 general election. Still, if the two favorites manage to secure their respective parties' nominations, what attendees hear from them Friday morning at the National Urban League Conference could provide a preview to a key battle next November.
While the question of whether Republicans can win back enough Latino voters to capture the White House has dominated the political discussion, Jeb Bush, perhaps uniquely among the GOP contenders, could also put into play African-American voters. He won 14 percent of the black vote in his 1998 run for governor, a record for statewide GOP candidates, and nearly three times as well as Bush had done four years earlier in his loss to Democratic incumbent Lawton Chiles.
"It's the most underwritten story in Florida," said Steve Schale, the Democratic strategist who helped engineer President Obama's Florida victories in both 2008 and 2012.
With Florida's black population growing substantially faster than the population as a whole, a change of just a few percentage points in black voters' preferences translates into tens of thousands of ballotsin a state where the last three major elections have been decided by a single percentage point. "It's a big deal, Schale said. "This has had as big an impact as the Hispanic vote has."

Talk about desperation to stop Trump. Last poll I saw, Trump actually had 1% MORE black vote than Romney, McCain, or Bush in 04.
No.
Laughable conclusions drawn from 1998 run.
Jeb ran against Lawton Chiles Lt. Governor Kenneth “Buddy McKay.
Jeb won by 11% across the board of the electorate that, IIRC, was bone tired of the Dem machine.
Here in Florida, the Dauphin Jeb the Inevitable has other voter concerns, to wit:
* the dead;
* the illegals;
* the snowbirds;
* the multiple-precinct-voting hipsters;
Even the block vote of the blacks couldn’t overcome those.
Can The Black Vote Win Jeb Bush The Presidency?
No because he is not going to be the GOP candidate.
Why would Blacks, who want illegals deported, vote for Jeb?
I suppose if you smoke enough crack anything is possible.
What I don't want to happen is the dwarfs (Graham, Kasich, Walker, Jeb or Rubio, Pataki, RandPaul, Christie etc ad nauseum) winning their states. In a brokered convention they could throw their states' votes to Jeb or whomever "Plan B" is.
Why did I mention the ones I did? They all criticized Trump but not Jeb. That's unacceptable.
For the life of me, I can't figure out how anyone sane and patriotic would want anyone but a President Trump. All of that money that would've been wasted on primaries could be spent on primary fights to oust DC pols who support Boehner or McConnell, by words or actions.
Dunno - can a white blood blooded squish with three chins and who’s made a career of pandering to hispanics win the black vote?
blue blooded
Jeb would make Hillary an outstanding running mate.
That's the dirty little secret that spells doom for the DemocRAT Party.
If a Republican can somehow siphon off a measly 10% of the black vote, the 'RAT loses.
Trump should let it be known that he is not happy with Boehner and McConnell. That will solidify his support from conservatives and justify him running under the damaged Republican brand. (And Trump knows how important branding is.) Its a good way to signal a new direction for the party. I realize he can’t guarantee this but he can make it clear that he will do everything in his power to push them out given the opportunity.
To think people actually get paid real money to write this kind of stuff.
It’s not Jeb Bush. It’s just JEB. Like JFK, or LBJ.
Exactly. No. Next question?
OMG. We ALWAYS get these assassin pundit musings before elections.
Let’s cut to the chase. Bush would never get the black vote. He would never get the Latino vote. PERIOD. End of story.
This election is going to be about one thing ... turnout. And if the GOP nominates Jebby a whole lot of Conservatives will sit this one out.
