Maybe Jeb Bush doesn’t have to pander to the right wing after all
Washington Post ^ | 7/30/15 | Paul Waldman

When Jeb Bush said last December that the Republican nominee would have to be willing to “lose the primary to win the general without violating your principles,” it sounded like either a starkly realistic assessment of the dynamics of Republican presidential politics or an awfully naïve statement of what was actually possible for a Republican candidate. Most observers — myself included — thought that he’d have no choice but to mirror the anger of committed Republican voters. As the candidate perceived by base voters and the most moderate of the contenders, he’d have to go through the same ritual that Mitt Romney did — genuflection to the right.

But so far, it doesn’t seem to be happening. Bush is offering a kinder, gentler conservatism than the other candidates — not in substance, but in tone. And even though he’s trailing Donald Trump in the polls, at this point it looks like his strategy might just pay off.

Let’s be clear about one thing: Jeb Bush is very, very conservative. His answers to almost every policy question are firmly within today’s Republican consensus.

NEVER..., have I seen a writer destroy their own argument quicker.

Jeb nomination = third party momentum in 2016. I’ll be one of them. In a field this strong, there’s no way I am settling this time.

WaPo can just shut up. Yeb is pandering to Hispanics and the Chamber of Commerce constituency, the ‘rat candidates pander to their far left and their minority constituency-so conservatives just aren’t supposed to have representation in this country, even after RINOs campaign on a conservative platform then stab conservatives in the back? WaPo can really kiss my azz.

Polls drive headlines.
GOTV wins ELECTIONS.

Jeb isn’t “concerned” because he knows the entire Republican Establishment will be behind him, getting votes to the polls in the primaries.

Or else...

His answers to policy questions are firmly within the parameters of the policies of cheap labor and the Chamber of Commerce, and there's not even an American consensus for open borders and blanket amnesty, much less a Republican one, if someone is including conservatives within that party. This is WaPo trying to marginalise conservatives as being on the fringe of mainstream politics, when we are historically the base of the Republican party, for heaven's sake!

Of course it is.

“Don’t be fooled by those other people and what they say.”

“Jeb is main stream, apple pie, grandma’s favorite, helper of little old ladies, kind to cats, friendly with puppies, lover of children, once seen with a manatee...”

Sheesh...

Jeb only needs to pander to the statist elites. They have the money and the power to put whoever they want into the White House.

Bush is practicing his new Mr. Rodgers strategy schtick. Hoping to set some kind of civil tone of happiness and smiles as if everything is just peachy. Bush is the happy candidate.☺
