Camille Paglia: How Bill Clinton is like Bill Cosby
Salon ^ | July 28, 2015 | By David Daley

Posted on 07/28/2015 3:25:01 PM PDT by Brad from Tennessee

SALON: The banner on the Drudge Report this morning is that Kathleen Willey is starting a site to collect harassment claims against Bill Clinton. New York magazine, meanwhile, has the stories of 35 women who say they were raped or assaulted by Bill Cosby. I wonder if you see a connection between the two stories: Would Bill Clinton’s exploits be viewed more like Cosby’s if he was in the White House now, instead of in the 1990s?

PAGLIA: Right from the start, when the Bill Cosby scandal surfaced, I knew it was not going to bode well for Hillary’s campaign, because young women today have a much lower threshold for tolerance of these matters. The horrible truth is that the feminist establishment in the U.S., led by Gloria Steinem, did in fact apply a double standard to Bill Clinton’s behavior because he was a Democrat. The Democratic president and administration supported abortion rights, and therefore it didn’t matter what his personal behavior was.

But we’re living in a different time right now, and young women have absolutely no memory of Bill Clinton. It’s like ancient history for them; there’s no reservoir of accumulated good will. And the actual facts of the matter are that Bill Clinton was a serial abuser of working-class women–he had exploited that power differential even in Arkansas. And then in the case of Monica Lewinsky–I mean, the failure on the part of Gloria Steinem and company to protect her was an absolute disgrace in feminist history! What bigger power differential could there be than between the president of the United States and this poor innocent girl? Not only an intern but clearly a girl who had a kind of pleading, open look to her–somebody who was looking for a father figure. . .

It’s a bit of a leap from Bill Cosby to Bill Clinton. I understand the similarities, but nothing compares to the presidency, and all the influence that comes with the office.

Feminst types have no credibility on sex harrassment issues.

I recall during the Lewinsky scandal, a woman from the National Organization for Women said she herself would perform a sex act on Bill Clinton. How much more could they destroy their credibility and trivialize all of these issues, than that statement???

And we know how Hillary sought to destroy any woman who came forward against Bill. Yet Hillary is supposed to be some feminist icon, some role model for.little girls???,,really???

It’s not influence if the target isn’t influenced or stands up to their bully tactics. Too many today are pussies.

"Young feminists need to understand that this abusive behavior by powerful men signifies their sense that female power is much bigger than they are! "

Bill Cosby was a predator if all the stories are true, Bill Clinton was just a philanderer who graduated to rapist. I'm sure he scored more women willingly then have accused him of rape. Now Hillary, knowing this and then fighting on Bill's side cause her future depends on Bill's success, she's hitched up to his wagon. Plain and simple. Depending upon a male for her to be able to fulfill her destiny sounds like the antithesis of feminism, and then when she gets started she actually betrays raped, beaten and battered women everywhere and showed what a facade her principles were. Her end justifies Her means, but only to herself which I guess puts her in the spectrum of sociopath.

I wondered when Camille was going to sound off. She was NEVER a fan of Bill Clinton, so seeing the difference in how the two men’s activities were treated, is really galling to her. She knows Bill Clinton got away with what he did, because he never threw the feminists, and their abortion rights, under the bus. He did it with almost every other liberal notion, but not that one.

I read part of the article...Not so sure I agree with her claim on the complexity of the sexuality of men. I think it is pretty simple for most guys. The complexity comes in from the fact that sexual activity requires interaction with women.

Camille Paglia is intelligent and perceptive about such matters, and as here it’s usually well worth hearing her out on them; meanwhile, sadly, she has huge blind spots personally about the most important matters.
