Despite his own opposition to reauthorizing the Export-Import bank, Sen. John Cornyn said Wednesday afternoon that Senate leadership won’t block an amendment to revive it.
This sets up a potential showdown with his Texan colleague, Sen. Ted Cruz, who vowed hours earlier to do everything he could to keep Ex-Im dead and buried.
The 81-year-old bank supported American exporters with guaranteed loans until Congress let its charter expire on June 30. Conservatives called Ex-Im crony capitalism at its worst and Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Dallas, led the Congressional charge to kill it.
Ex-Im supporters have considered reauthorizing the bank through an amendment to an upcoming highway funding bill. Cornyn said he’ll vote against it, but that he and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell won’t use procedural tactics to keep an amendment off the table.
“As you know Sen. McConnell is not a fan of Ex-Im, I’m not particularly a fan of Ex-im, and it remains a controversial item in the United States Senate,” said Cornyn, McConnell’s chief deputy, in a conference call with reporters. But “I believe [supporters] will get a chance to vote.”

Cruz’s “thinly veiled criticisms” were anything but “veiled.” He told the truth about the lying, Big Government friend of lobbyists that McConnell is. Anyone who watched Cruz’s magnificent speech on CSPAN yesterday would say that the phony conservative mask that McConnell and Cornyn wear during election years was ripped away by Cruz in the well of the Senate. It was awesome. Check it out.

I watched that video of Cruz. He methodically exposed McConnell’ treachery and duplicity. It was a tour de force. Cruz is a brilliant person.
Once upon a time COrnyn did a pretty good impersonation of a Conservative.
Can anyone name one thing that would be different if the Dems were in charge? I can’t.

Cornyn will be primaried and defeated by Gregg Abbott.
