Why Donald Trump Didn't Run as a Democrat
Real clear politics ^ | July 21, 2015 | Carl Cannon

Maria Konnikova is not someone Donald Trump would typically describe as “a loser.” Fluent in Russian and English, she writes authoritatively on psychology and culture. Her work has appeared in prestigious publications ranging from The Atlantic to Scientific American. After graduating magna cum laude from Harvard, she received her Ph.D. in psychology from Columbia University.

Four years ago, Konnikova wrote a piece for a publication called Big Think, postulating that Trump’s perpetual boorishness is attributable to mental illness, specifically a condition called narcissistic personality disorder.

History professor Jelani Cobb, writing in The New Yorker, focused on another facet of The Donald’s persona. “[I]n all the ways that matter, save actual performing, Donald Trump is not a politician—he’s a rapper,” Cobb postulated. “If elected, he’s less likely to represent George W. Bush’s third term than Kanye West’s first one.”

"Certainly, there are thrice-married Republicans in this country. There are also Republicans who consider Bill Clinton a successful president, just as there are Republicans who believe George W. Bush was “the worst president in history.” Some Republicans care so little about abortion that they can’t explain if they are pro-life or pro-choice. There are also Republicans who have said that all 11 million illegal immigrants in this county deserve “a path” to citizenship—and there are other Republicans who have called for an impenetrable wall between the United States and Mexico. There are even a few Republicans who have donated money to Democratic Sens. Chuck Schumer and Harry Reid.

But there are no Republicans about whom you can accurately say all those things—unless you count Donald Trump. In a recent interview, Ari Fleischer, who was White House press secretary under George W. Bush, said it was clear that Trump was “no conservative.” The real issue is more basic: there’s not much evidence he’s even a Republican."

Uh, Konnikova? You were looking for a narcissist?

... been wondering about Trump’s politics for quite awhile.
AND.... it seems to me he is one person who could beat Hillary in the D primary.... whereas he’ll be up against several pretty good campaigners in the R primary. He IS a smart person who should be able to see this ...

on those two counts, we’re mystified...

Trump is a buffoon, but it is the so-called “conservatives” that are actually considering this person as a viable candidate that are either fools or trolls. Donald Trump is NOT attempting to “fix” America. He is stroking his undeserved ego and messing with the GOP primary. Real conservatives like Ted Cruz are being hurt and ignored because of this idiot.

I much as I dislike the GOP establishment, I would vote for many (not all) in the general election if they get the nomination; I wouldn’t be happy about it. However, Donald Trump is such a despicable personage that I would NEVER vote for him in either a primary or GENERAL election. I will stay home like I should have for Romney.

Yeah, I was going to mention that we’ve all been witness to and victims of a narcissistic personality for 6 1/2 years.

Do real conservatives get behind a 5 fold increase in the number of H-1B visas?

“Real conservatives like Ted Cruz are being hurt and ignored because of this idiot.”

Don’t blame Trump because your boy’s soft-spoken routine isn’t capturing the public.

There are two simple reasons: in 2012 and now there are open fields in the Republican race. In the Democrats in 2012 and 2016 there is one unbeatable candidate.

Second reason: The Democrats have a system. Anyone can't just ride in an expect to take a place. On the Republican side it's much easier for any yutz to enter the race and go from there.

But if there is ever a Republican incumbent again, it's possible he could run as a Democrat. The left will love him when he, "stands up," and doesn't back down to the media, corporations, the party establishment.

Cause the fix is in for HELLary.. thats why... “Donald Trump continues to show hourly that he is ill-prepared to be commander in chief,” Lindsey Graham campaign manager Christian Ferry said in an e-mailed statement. “The two people most excited about Donald Trump’s candidacy are Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.”

I feel the exact opposite. I will vote for Cruz in the primary, but if the GOP nominates YEB! or Rubberio or La Raza Rick, I will not vote for them. No cheap labor importers.
If Trump gets the nomination, it would be a less painful vote for me than Romney was.

If Hillary loses in 2016, the Dems will run either Elizabeth Warren or Julian Castro in 2020. If Hillary wins in 2016, there will be no America in 2020 to run for.

“On the Republican side it’s much easier for any yutz to enter the race and go from there. “

If A yutz could just walk in and get 24%, what does that make the other candidates?

We know Trump is...well...Trump. So what? What matters to me is he’s currently hitting some key notes on issues we hold dear.

Immigration amnesty is strongly opposed by Republicans and even many Democrats, but the Uniparty absolutely refuses to stop illegal aliens from streaming across the border and overstaying visas. They can’t even point their fingers at President Obama on this one. He’s just trying to use executive orders to legitimize what the GOPe has been complicit in for years.

We are sick and tired of voting for the lesser of two evils, and have no doubt. Most of the GOP is full of evil and has done and would do—although to a lesser degree...maybe—what Democrats do. Again, we’re sick and tired of being disenfranchised. Trump, for the moment, is addressing OUR concerns, and I love it!

It is extremely unlikely that Donald Trump will ever be president, but stranger things have happened. We elected a person based solely on skin color...twice. And I gotta say, could Trump really do any worse than what we’ve already had? Would he really be worse than a President McCain, President Jeb Bush, or President Hillary?

Yeah, we almost went there once with McCain and I shudder to think what would have happened had he won! Compared to that, Trump doesn’t frighten me one bit.

Notice she didn’t analyze Kerry (he served in Vietnam,btw)...uh,Rush did about the best analysis possible today. Trump has better grasp of reality than Kerry.

Trump is neither a conservative nor a liberal. He’s neither Republican nor Democrat.

He’s a Trump-lican-ocrat-ney.

Which is to say, he’s a wealthier, bad-hair version of Mitt Romney. Buyer beware.
