Trump courts Arizona treasurer to challenge McCain

If you challenge Donald Trump, he may encourage others to challenge you.

In recent days, the combative Republican presidential candidate has urged Arizona treasurer Jeff DeWit to take on Sen. John McCain, a Trump critic, in the state’s 2016 GOP Senate primary.

Trump and DeWit met privately in Phoenix July 11 aboard Trump’s Boeing 757. During the conversation, which was observed by The Washington Post, Trump and DeWit discussed McCain and what it would take it make the race competitive.

“You really should think about doing it,” Trump told DeWit, who nodded as he sat inches from Trump in the cream-colored cabin.

Great two liberals. Maybe they can split the vote and a conservative could win.

Kelli Ward is already running against McLame. If anybody listend to Mark Levin's program on Friday you'll know how amazing she sounds. Don't need anybody else.

Agreed. While I have historically liked McCain (circa 2000), not today. Love that Trump is tearing up the Republican landscape which is in serious need of renewal.

Trump's new campaign slogan? I think that your statement above would be a good slogan for Trump to put on one of his campaign posters.

Trump: I like him, but I don't agree with all of his political views. He can sometimes be a little too loud and arrogant for me.

Still, I think your statement above summarizes what I also think of Trump.

heard him saying yesterday that he raised a lot of money for McCain for his 2008 campaign and felt betrayed by his lack of loyalty. It seems loyalty is a big deal to him.

U would think that loyalty is a big deal to him. He is a multi-millionaire and business man after all. Who, in their right mind, wants traitors around them?

he’s a multi-billionaire. and McCain totally betrayed him which is unsurprising.

I see folks say they don't agree with everything Trump says, do you agree with “everything” anybody says? I see folks say Trump is only out for himself, is anyone on national political scene not a narcissistic blow hard? I see folks say they will never trust Trump, do you trust anybody in D.C.? And yet these same folks will admit they don't like the status quo of sell outs and pandering to the liberals.

Guys, if you want a change this is it. You want to keep the ruling class in charge write off Trump and go back to sleep. You want some one that can “reach across the aisle” and “get things done” keep right on supporting the guys GOPe stands before you. I don't agree with Trump on everything but I do know there are too many GOP candidates that agree with Obama, Hillary & company on too many things.

This may be the last shot we have to support a man that speaks truth as he sees it, not a party line, and is/will be be holding to no one.

There’s already a good candidate running against McCain. Kelli Ward is a solid conservative. I’m afraid that McCain would win in a crowded race.

Trump should donate the max to Kelli Ward’s campaign. She’s the real deal. Time to retire McLame.

KING: Are you saying, though, that Biden would be better suited than Palin to step into that office?

TRUMP: No, I’m not saying that. I think she’s made a tremendous impact. The impact that she has had on rejuvenating almost the Republican Party, it’s been unbelievable. She has had a tremendous impact and frankly I didn’t know who she was. Most people didn’t know who she was. As soon as we got to see her and watch her, everybody’s impressed. I think that really is to John McCain’s credit. What he did in this choice is amazing because nobody else would have made it. It was a courageous choice. It has really reinvigorated the party.

KING: Have you formally endorsed the ticket?

TRUMP: No, but I’m endorsing McCain. I am basically very strongly — you have to understand, I’ve known him, I like him, I respect him.

KING: So you’re endorsing him?

TRUMP: He’s a smart guy and I think he’s going to be a great president.

KING: So you’re endorsing him?

TRUMP: Sure, I’ll endorse him on your show, why not?

KING: You just endorsed him.

TRUMP: I endorse him. http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/why-did-trump-endorse-mccain-he-wanted-clinton-as-obamas-vp
