Not going to go there with you, I gave you my opinion and that’s it.
I don’t have any feelings on this matter myself as I don’t live in the South. I am in fact a Yank (living in Yankee town — NY). I could care less whether or not South Carolina or Alabama officially flies the flag.
However, consider this — the moment you capitulate to banning the Confederate flag, what comes next?
Do you think liberals will be satisfied with it?
Nope. Even now there is loud clamor to take down the statue of Gen. Robert E. Lee, Thomas Jefferson ( a slave owner ) , Confederate monuments, etc.
All for what reason? In order to stop racism?
I have news for you — It WON’T. In fact, doing the above will probably add more fuel to the fire.
This is why getting rid of Confederate monuments and re-naming schools is a bad idea. Its going to make people forget how horrific the Civil War actually was.
In fact, the monuments to Robert E. Lee and other Confederates and the battlefields at Vicksburg, Gettysburg, and Antietam are a main reason why talks of secession these days are met with scorn and derision.
The monuments, statues, and school names have to STAY UP.
Don’t get we wrong, I don’t theres anything wrong with pulling down the Confederate battle flag from South Carolina and Alabama. Those were put up in a foolish fight against segregation in the 1950s and 60s.
But one note of caution -— EVERYTHING ELSE SHOULD STAY UP if only as a reminder of the past and how destructive the Civil War was.
Turning the 1860s into, the South seceded, lost the Civil War, the slaves were freed, Lincoln was assassinated, and everything went back to normal, isnt the right way to go.
It simplifies the matter and makes us forget why things happened, and why a civil war shouldnt happen again.
And for what reason? All because on evil nut job slaughtered 9 innocent people?
What message is this giving to the next potential nut job?
